I'm having trouble selling my 22 bags of these quarters. Most of them are in the sealed boxes and all are in sealed bags. I don't know why people don't want to buy them all up at a discount? Hmm...
I'll leave the prospecting to you. I just don't get what people think is going to be so scarce about these when they were minted in 1.5 million coins. I'm happy with just one of each, for a couple bucks. I don't need rolls of coins. Good luck!
1.5M seems high, but many/most will be locked in rolls/bags until higher individual prices "force" them open. Very few actually purchased the rolls, as many thought the mintage would go higher and waited to order and got left out. Even at 1.5M, $10/coin would not be an unreasonable price.
It seems like there are a lot of Denali rolls offered currently, but the El Yunque listings have dwindled. Clearly the flippers loaded up on Denali. I agree that they have potential. The reason is that the initial sellout was so unexpected. Some dealers got caught with their pants down and need to buy them.
That makes sense - over 3,000 Denali rolls were sold the last week, when they were the only ones left - looks like the flippers got them.
Amazing how this sell out has gotten no press in Coin World. Only one Coin World dealer has these rolls for sale and they’re the orange & white wrapped rolls from bags – looks like the dealers did get left out. Are the dealers controlling Coin World content? Will we see an article covering the sell out after the dealers get stocked up?
For that matter, in the last 3 issues of Coin World, none of the 2012 sell outs and record low sales have been mentioned! Give those dealers time to grab them at low prices?
We have not seen mintage figures like this on "circulating" quarters since the 1920's, however since they are sold to collectors only, they will not be worth much until someone feeds granddad's sack of quarters into the coinstar machine and we get "what is this" questions "it's not a proof", in the roll searcher's forum. I personally am very excited to see something like this come out of the mint, knowing full well that I will never profit off of it, and also knowing that 100 years from now, it will fill some collector with excitement and joy to come across one.
Interesting how this is playing out on eBay. Even though El Yunque is the highest mintage of the 5, it was the first to sell out and there are currently only 22 ads and the price is holding at around $70/roll. There are 77 ads for Denali and it can be bought for around issue price. Over the next few weeks this should equalize. Will the rest follow the El Yunque pattern, where the rolls offered dwindle over time and prices rise? Also note, there are many bidders – are these collectors or HSN/dealers loading up?
For those who bought these rolls/bags, how many and what mix did you buy? I bought 5 rolls of each to cover all the kids in the family.
I bought 4 Hawaii and 4 Denali. I told my wife after the El Yunque sold out that I would be able to buy these and re-sell for a profit. But I had not been collecting long and had never tried flipping anything before. When I told her that I would spend $19 on $10 rolls of quarters she looked at my like I had worms crawling out of my ears. My 4 Hawaii rolls are gone. I got about $40 each for them making a $10 profit on each one after ebay fees. I'm holding onto Denali until the prices go up.
As soon as an error coin is discovered in one of these atb (S) qtr rolls most collectors will open there's to look for it then eventually put 70% of the loose ones back into circulation just like the state qtrs
Wasn't really interested in these until the Hawaii bags sold out. I bought 5 Hawaii "S" rolls and 1 Denali "S" bag to test the waters for future purchases. Made Ebay and the USPS some money and I'll even have enough to get cheese on our hamburgers tomorrow night. What I'll do is just buy the "S" bags of the "popular" designs from now on and not many at that. Got 3 White Mtn "S" Bags on the way. This years designs do nothing for me. Now the 2014s...that's another story.
I bought 2 rolls of each except the El Yunque which was already sold out when I decided to get a 2nd roll of each...
Are they drying up already? eBay ads for all 5 rolls/bags averaged 200 over the last several days. Just noticed there are only 167 now.
