Looks like HAMPSON IAMES on one side and IHP in centre. Date, make out 1665.....OMCRYL HALF ---NY Best i can do with my loupe.
Yes it is a mid-1600s trade token. It might still have some value. Some of these are quite rare and sought after even in lower grades. I don't know how scarce this one is though. Here are the legends I found from an online reference: Trade tokens issued in the seventeenth century in England, Wales ..., Volume 1 By William Boyne 60. O. IAMES . HAMPSON = I . E . H. R. OF . CROYLAND . l666 = HIS HALF PENY. |
Very interesting.....I'll put it in a flip not the trash then........it arrived with some hammered coinage which I have already posted on the forum so should have known better that to think it was nothing.... there is another very poor grade coin with it in similar grade........will post it.......marbury
I am a bit jealous of you guys over in England. The coins you would "throw in a bin" would be spectacular finds over here.
I put the token on e-bay last night and it has had over 25 views and 6 watchers......good job I didn't chuck it away......marbury
Great! I'm happy you gave it a chance That other coin is a Kingdom of Sardinia soldo (5?) from the 1790s I think. See this - second coin down: http://www.ccoins.ru/it/sardinia_en.html
Many thanks.......wierd .......no bids of my nice hammered coinage yet........but got bid on the token. Re the Sol 5.......yes, you're right.........and my one is 1796........will stick it on ebay instead of the bin just in case someone wants it.........
