Toned ASE'S in ANACS slabs

I decided to check out some coins that I've had stored for several years. They're slabbed ASE's that were stored in a NGC box that holds 20 slabs. 18 of the coins were in NGC slabs and the other 2 were ANACS. The 2 that are in ANACS slabs have started toning while the others have not. I suppose the ANACS slabs aren't airtight and the slabs themselves are causing the toning. I've got others that are raw and none of them show any toning.

No slabs are airtight. Not PCGS not NGC not ANACS. I don't mind rim toning like that but I really don't care for those AT eagles that look like some kid dropped his water colors on them.

And no it's not the ANACS slabs themselves causing the toning either. Toning is kind of a hit & miss proposition, some coins just tone faster than others or in different ways.

I once stored a tube of 2000 ASE's, 20 coins, all in Air-Tites. Put them all in the same Tupperware container and stored them in a drawer. A year later, some were toned and some were not.

Now what was really interesting to me was that at the same time I put 2 rolls of 2000 Sackys all in Air-Tites, in the same kind of Tupperware container, and stored them in the very same drawer along the ASE's. And at the end that year, not a one had toned at all. And Sackys are much more reactive than ASE's are.

Even more unexpected for me, was that after 10 years, none of those Sackys had any toning that was noticeable to me. That one kind of blew me away.

Thanks for the reply. I just found it interesting that the only 2 coins that toned whatsoever were those in the ANACS slabs.

Coincidence, and nothing to do with ANACS. No TPG's slabs are perfectly airtight, and some will tone or not depending on several factors, some of which can not be reasonably controlled. And whether the toning some coins may receive is a good or bad thing is purely subjective.

the ANACS "blue slabs" were notorious for not being very secure, many can be cracked open with bare hands.

I disagree with the comments that this had nothing to do with the ANACS slab. While of course, I have no certainty, the paper insert could have something to do with the toning. The insert is rather larger compared to PCGS and NGC, and more significantly, I wonder if all that ink used to make the fancy design has something to do with the toning.
