im not sure about this. it has some really pronounced doubling that is offset to the NW and not present on all of the coin. the doubling is extreme, and doesnt reduce the devices at all like i would expect MD this sever to do. 1970 5 drachmai.
I have to agree with Matt, looks MD. Notice how they appear flat and shelf like, not rounded? That is what I look for. Many world coins have higher incidents of MD than US coins nowadays. But, I learned how to identify MD on US half cents. The 1830's issues of half cents are rife with MD it appears.
thats what i thought until i noticed that it had the serif splits and it didnt cut away from the rim letters like MD.
do you see the two distinct inner serifs on the right leg of the N at the top? its split with two different points. the primary device is a hair higher than the doubling and both come to sharp, separate points. that, along with the fact the the rim letters are NOT reduced, is why i brought it here. i have NEVER seen MD with split serifs.
here is a better shot of the N. i was told that it was impossible for MD to copy a point. especially without smashing down the primary serif. maybe i was told wrong.
Notice the shelf like doubling to the left? That's classic MD to me. I've never heard about the serifs not being doubled by MD.
