I almost forgot to tell ya'll this news. Coin activity has been very slow lately as property tax and health insurance bills have popped up. They do every year but they always catch me off guard I took this little half-dime into town (to buy a nice plastic holder) when I got back my Overton, Capped Bust Half book from the dealer I loaned it too and happened to met with three dealers who were visiting the fellow. We chatted for a while and eventually I pulled this coin out of the jeep and showed it to them. I got verbal grades of (2 AU-50s) and 1 (AU-53) from them and turned down ($3 bills) from one fellow who had 2 shops in the Denver/Colorado Springs area I think. I personally feel it's in the XF range but there aren't many to compare it to. Take Care Ben
Take the dealers grade!!!....I think in most cases the person that owns the coin will grade it higher than the person wanting it---but I find in sometimes that it is dead wrong-- Speedy
That's a great looking coin. I'm into Capped Bust half dimes at the moment, its the only series from the 1800's that I have hope of completing any time soon.....
I definitely agree with Ben on the XF grade. There just seems to be too much wear on the high spots of the eagle especially, for me to call it an AU.
Thanks to all who took a look. You know Big Z I think that's what they were basing their opinions on and I guess it's also a HTF variety. Thanks for looking. Ben
That's a borderline one. I'd say XF-45 because of the wear. Very nice coin, and a lot nicer than my 1832 Bust half dime.
