I have an Australian proof set from 1974. I looked up the values for the coins in my 2004 edition of Krause and the values listed seemed awful high, especially considering what I paid for the set. Krause lists the 1974 50p proof coin, by itself, as being worth $30 USD. Can anyone tell me if this is a correct value? Or if maybe I am missing something here?

The 2006 Krause lists it at $45. There is an active home market demand for Aussie coins which drives prices up.

I have all those coins, just not proofs :) Aussies have some cool coins.

Appearently the earlier Aussie coins, from '66 to the early 70s are scarce in proof. I am not too sure what it is worth, but I wouldnt' be too suprised if it hits 50-60USD although please do not quote me on that.

Not long ago there was a lot of 5 Aussie Proof sets - '70 thru '74 - being offered for $79.00 - there were no takers. That indicates to me that even at $15 a set, nobody was interested.

Well, I got the entire set for $3 USD from my local coin shop, so that indicates to me as well, that they're not too popular in the states. Beautiful coins though, I love the 20p with the platypus swiming under the water.

It's from an older Simpsons episode.
