I was bored yesterday so I thought I would buy a coin to buoy my mood (usually helps). Coin quality seems (to me, anyway) to be going downhill on eBay, so I decided to seek out other venues. Against my better judgement, I went to a live auction site "LiveAuctioneers". I signed up and tried an auction to see how it would go. The auction that was going on had an assortment of pretty crappy coins and bullion. I picked out about forty (40) lots for pre-bids. There was a 20% Buyer's premium tacked on to the end of the auction...along with unspecified S&H fees, so I took that into account. Needless to say, I didn't win any of my bids. As the "live" bidding went along, a 1900-S Barber half came up (below) that was listed as "AU" with "nice toning". To me it looked like VF20 ( I assume "Liberty" is all there) with PVC damage. Note: They only provide pictures of the Obverse! :rollling: By this time I'm becoming REALLY bored and my mood is souring by the minute. Desperate to bid on ANYTHING, I bid $30 and won the coin below for a total of $36. I know I can get at least $10 for melt, so "worst case" I'm out $26 + S&H (whatever that turns out to be). So what do you think? ...how badly did I get burned? :dismay:
'X' marks the spot on that one yak. Why didn't ya just crack open a new bottle of bourbon? That's what I do when I get bored......... And for you kids out there, daddy's only kidding........
Looks like it has more meat than a VF20, but also looks like secondary toning along with a scratch across the obverse. Next time you need to buy a coin, simply go to my site to do it!
I'll do that! Btw, I have untill March 15th to spend $1,000 in my healthcare spending account. Do you think I can list coins as "therapy"?
Not trying to sink your boat, but lets hope the reverse looks better. I'm also curious, what are those two dark spots on there?
Well you could roll up some grass in hundred dollar bills and smoke em. Call it medical marijuana and chalk it up to health care.
Never rush to buy a coin, you never have to spend money. Unless your buying coins from me, then buy all the coins you want.
Yes, it falls under stress management. :smile BTW, FWIW, next time you are feeling down take stock in what you have before you bid on items you do not. :smile TC
That's why I use HSA's instead (plus my company throws in $50 in it as well), you never lose the money you put in and if you have enough in the account, it starts building interest.
The last time I did something like that I ended up bidding on a silver plated stagecoach bar. Luckily I was able to do a bid retraction in about one min after I saw my mistake I said I was bidding $12.00 not $22.00 lol
Hey everybody...I appreciate all your kind words of support! I already paid so I only have to wait another 3-4 weeks for delivery. :just-sign: When the coin arrives, I'll try to clean it up as best I can and post fresh pictures. ...to be continued.
