Hello, I finally got an avatar for this forum. Pretty neat, huh? Go Cards!!!! I received my proof gold $5 Old San Francisco mint commemorative coin yesterday. However, when I opened up the felt case that holds it, the coin came sliding out. The plastic case that holds the coin had come open sometime and the coin had been sliding around the inside for who knows how long. There's a pretty good scratch on the obverse at the top of the building. I'm going to be sending this guy back to the mint for an exchange. Has anyone ever had to do that before? How good is the mint about replacing a coin? Thanks! -StephenS
loose coins It sounds like a lot of people have had trouble with loose airtights they come in. It's a shame its happening to these beautifull coins.
The mint will refund your money and pay for the postage to return the damaged coin. I would call them for instructions on the postal refund policy. If you want to take a chance on getting another coin, they will exchange the coin. Good luck!
The same thing happened to me. The top half of the plastic case was off. I held the coin at various angles and could not see any damage. So I will keep it. I called the mint to complain and they claimed that I was the first to inform them of this issue.
