So I have this coin that I can't figure out anything about. I can post pictures later if need be but I will just try to describe it first. I can't tell which side is the obv. or rev. On one side on the top is a flower that kinda looks like a sun. To the right is a cross figure. To the left is some character which I believe might be chinese. On the bottom of this side is what it looks like branches coming out of leaves. On the other side is 3 characters, 2 dots on the sides and then 5 characters on the bottom. Also the coin has a whole in the middle of it. I know this is not the best description but any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.
Please can you post some photos,if that is possible? It is very hard to identify a coin with very scant information. From your description,it sounds like it could be from Japan or Korea,as opposed to China. Aidan.
Japan! Japan makes sense to me now. I recieved these coins from my Grandfather and he was there during WW2 so that is probably when he picked them up.
pretty Much! Thanks for finding that out for me sterling. It is amazing the knowledge that people on this site have! There are just 2 differences with the coin I have and the coin you posted. It might just be that the one shown is a little more worn than the one I have but on my coin, on the side with all the characters, surrounding the middle hole is a flower like shape outline. Also on the same side of this coin, the background has a wave-like texture. Don't know if this makes it a different coin, different variety or just well struck without much circulation. Again thanks for all the help!
You're welcome CoinNewb3. So I guess your coin is a 10 sen from Taisho period. See attachment. The second character from the five at the obverse bottom will vary according to your coin's date.
