The first 10 million dollar coin has been sold. http://news.msn.com/pop-culture/rare-1794-silver-dollar-sells-for-dollar10-million?ocid=ansnews11 It is pretty nice. A little out of my league.
Funny, I read that it beat the '33 double eagle 6 months back, and the buyer said he would never sell it. Oh well.
Make that three years back and your correct about the price but I don't believe he ever said it would never be sold.
Yeah. But eventually this will be by someone with "strong hands" and no one will be able to buy it for another 25-40 years like most good coins. I don't think a lot of new collectors realize how thinly traded the rare coin market is. There are huge numbers of beautiful, desirable coins out there, but most are not for sale. Most are owned by old jerks like me who will never sell, hoping to pass them down in the family. In the ancient arena, we are lucky that new hoards of buried coins are always coming onto the market. If it weren't for those, and we could only buy coins from other collections, our selection of coins to buy would be 1/50th of what it is today.
