Any thoughts would be appreciated - if you can see it to ID it... The Three looks think like the large date, and the one looks high on the back and smaller... Also the stems on the back have a wide space on the right stem when compared to http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/1497 But I am not seeing the die crack but not sure if that could be worn off Thanks in advance!!
This is without a doubt a SMALL DATE. On the Large Date, notice how the 3 almost swallows the 0 and is barely separate. now look at your example. It is distant from any 0 and distinct. The actual variety is lost to me by excessive wear and there are too many examples of close matches to be definitive without some sort of diagnostic crack.
I'm thinking S-245. The berry to the right of the E in ONE is just about at the center of the E. There are only a couple of varieties like that. All the rest have the berry higher or even above the E. And the point of leaf is below the center of the D. The others with the centered berry have that leaf point either right of the center of the upright or below the right side of the D. S-245 has it below the center of the D. S-245 also has the point of the three solidly touching the bust as your coin does.
Thanks - I guess in this condition its not worth getting certified? Does it carry anything extra? Thanks a ton for all the feedback on these posts!!
It's an scarce variety at R3, but it does not bring a premium. Not worth slabbing, and in general most early copper is not slabbed. A lot of the early copper collectors prefer raw coins, even the high dollar coins.
