I'm 100% new to this and came across this. I'm just curious why the D mink mark is in such a different location on the two coins! It's pretty visible to the naked eye. Just wondering why it is like this? Tim
If I remember correctly the mint marks are hand punched into the dies, so that always leaves room for differences in placement.
Yep, up until 1990, the mintmarks were hand-punched into the working dies, so there will often be differences in mintmark location on cents dated 1909-1989. And just for future reference, they are called cents, not pennies. :smile Keep up the hunt!
