I'm 100% new to this and came across this. I'm just curious why the D mink mark is in such a different location on the two coins!

It's pretty visible to the naked eye. Just wondering why it is like this?

If I remember correctly the mint marks are hand punched into the dies, so that always leaves room for differences in placement.

    Makes sense.

    Thanks!

Yep, up until 1990, the mintmarks were hand-punched into the working dies, so there will often be differences in mintmark location on cents dated 1909-1989.
And just for future reference, they are called cents, not pennies. :smile
    Keep up the hunt!
