I got an 1818 British Half Crown in a bunch of silver coins I got around melt. Any idea what it's worth? I guess they call it the bull head, because George III had such a thick neck. It's in about the condition you see here.
That coin is damaged, and I'm guessing won't fetch over melt unless it's some rarity I don't know about.
Mine is not as damaged as that, but it's in about the same condition. I got it for melt, so I don't feel too badly then.
Ah, I didn't see the part where you said that the condition was similar to that. Carry on, I have no idea as to the answer to your question, sorry!
I am going to hang on to it, but I can't seem to find a list of values anywhere on the web. I wish I had an 1800's world coin book. I'll have to look for one. It turns out that Mad Kind George is the sovereign on the coin, which makes it more interesting.
This may give you some idea on the value. http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/Wo...ory=122942&worldcoinid=314935&FromSearch=true
I intend to hang on to it, but this gives me an idea of the value. I think it's worth around $45 in the state it's in. They seem to be going for around that on E-bay. That means I have at least tripled my money anyway. My next purchase is a big book of world coins from 1800-1900. I may as well start to get ready for the cost. I guess they are going for around $50. My next purchase for sure.
i have seen many in this condition sell for around £2, but in the higher grades they can reach £1-200...........
this is a george 111 halfcrown--small head variety--mintage 2,905,056-----all it is worth is scrap value -but still interesting-worth keeping
Thanks! I guess there were a lot made. I still think it's cool with Mad King George's bull neck in it. He's the best known king from US history, and has a very colorful story. I am ordering a World Coins book from 1801-1901. It set me back almost $50, but if I am going to get into this, I think I need it. I am always finding coins from that era and not knowing what they are and what they are worth.
the bull neck design was issued with the date 1816 some in 1817 then changed to this design the small head.value in uk coin book £25 about $30 in fine condition, this is less then fine
