I added some new Morgan and Peace Dollars today...about $28 a piece so I can't complain but as I got home and was looking them, two caugh my eye: the 1921 S Morgan appears to have what I assume is a scratch that connects the "L" and the "I" in LIBERT, it almost looks like an "A". I assume this is just a scratch but wanted to run it by you all. The second thing is a the 1900 O Morgan has what I was thinking could be a die crack? Thanks in advance for your input :smile
I can't tell from your photo of the 21-S if it is a gouge or scratch, both being PMD, or if it is a strikethrough. Is that a small recess above the top crossbar of the "I"? It could be a continuation of a strikethrough. Dies cracks are so common on Morgan dollars that you can find examples of them for every year they were struck. It took 130-150 tons of pressure to produce the Morgan. Chris
Thanks - what do you think of the 1921 S scratch on "LIBERTY" between L and I? Also, what tells you these are cleaned? I don't doubt it, but I'd like to learn so I know what to look for before going up in price.
Here are some (hopefully) better pictures. The 1900 lookst to have the die crack as well as the die polish lines around the wheat and seems to match the VAM 2A and 44A known errors on the 1900 O. The 1921 L & I line is still driving me crazy on what it is. In any case, cleaned or not, I am new to Morgan's and this is my first error coin in general, so it's been fun trying to research it.
