Picked up a collection today, mostly Morgans. The guy was liquidating his grandfather's entire collection and he researched everything on Ebay. I think I paid a little too much. How did I do? 1. 117 Morgans and 24 Peace (Ranging from G to BU condition with an XF/AU average) - $26 each 2. 3 BU Morgans in a display case - BU condition with 1 toned coin - $26 each 3. 1923 Peace MS64 - $45 4. Montana Mountain Treasure (Rainbow toned 1 MS63 and 5 MS64 in a nice display case) - $390 5. Carson City Casino Hoard in case $820 1882 CC MS62 1883 CC MS62 1891 CC MS61 1884 CC MS62 6. Wouldn't have paid anything because it would be way out of my price range for all of that. But it looks like a nice score.
Prices posted. I think the best deal was the toned set. The toning is really really nice on all of them. I've seen them on Ebay for around $150+ each. Wondering if there would be a premium for the set with case...
It would be very hard to place a value on the whole collection from just those photos. You would have to post clear photos of the OBV & REV of each coin individually. Chris
LOL! Any time you can get non-cull Morgans for $26 each, grab 'em with both hands. As for the premium stuff, I'm in no position to grade/price raw Morgans, but I can read Numismedia prices for slabs as well as the next guy -- I don't think you're in any danger of losing your shirt.
Assuming that all of the Morgans turn out to be real, it sounds like you made a reasonable offer (for both yourself and for the seller). Personally, when I shop, I'm a bit leery of some of the repackaged Morgans (non-mint cases) as some 3rd parties tend to dip or polish. And who knows what's in that plastic? I would advise repackaging them in non-PVC as soon as possible & check for damage as you do so.
If you're selling off Morgans & Peace for $26 a piece, they can't really be BU and are not key dates, VAMs, or rare varieties.
They're all real, except for the 1783 8 reales. It only weighs 22.5 grams. No key dates, but there might be VAMs and rare varieties in there. I'll just have to go through them. I don't think the guy went through each one of his 144 loose coins.
That first pic with the 12 Morgans in airtites, looks like something one of the rip off Mints sells. If it is, they've no doubt been polished.
But, it comes with a certificate of authenticity and a letter personally signed by the president of the company that put the set together. He guarantees that they're in BU condition. The CC piece in there looks really nice - Just like an MS65 I have. I might send it off to get graded.
Who do you think does the polishing? I'll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge, and because you're a fellow member of CT, and I can't do this all day, I'll cut you a great deal. But act fast while supplies last.
