I have been searching through BU rolls of 98, 99, and 2000 Lincoln cents with the hope of coming across a WIDE AM specimen (no luck yet). In one roll of 99-P pennies I did come across these 2 coins which are identicle to one another with the same intersting issues. First, the obverse shows a die crack just to the right of the E in WE, extending from the rim of the coin through Lincoln's forehead. I know die cracks are not errors, this simply helps to prove that 2 different coins exhibt what may be identical errors (on the reverse). Now the reverse on both coins also shows a die crack just to the left of the E in UNITED which extends from the rim on each coin to the left top corner of the memorial building. Lastly, there is a raised metal line which starts at the top of the memorial building and ends directly on the small dot to the right of the M in UNUM. This is what I am wondering about. Could this be an error? This small line is definetly not a scratch, it is without a doubt a raised metal hump. It is interesting that I found just 2 examples which show identical die cracks on both sides of the coins and this unknown metal line. Any thoughts on what this could be would be greatly appreciated. I checked cherrypickers' and strike it rich with pocket change but neither make reference to any such error as this. Thanks again.
I believe what you are referring to near the UNUM, is a die chip. So you have some cents with nice die cracks and die chips. I don't think there is any premium associated with die chips. Unless someone is really into collecting them. Neat coins though and good eye!
