    Taribor Don't know what I don't Know

Hey fellas - I've pretty much stuck to Proof ASE's and Britannia's most of the the time I have been collecting and it got a little bored to be honest, so I am playing around to see what else interests me, and I've settle on Walker 1/2's (probalby due to the familiar design) as well as Morgans, since that keeps me in with silver dollars. Problem is I know zilch about what to look for in a Morgan; if it was cleaned; how to grade it; etc. I read online as much as I can but I like the interaction/discussion you all provide, so if you don't mind, can you please pick these apart - not just grade, but why you chose that grade (so I can learn)?

I won't spend real money on Morgans until I get a few common ones (these were $32 per I picked up today - 1880 S; 1885 O; 1889; ) but I did like the toning on the 1885. Thanks!

I don't like the look of the rims and denticles on any of them, but I'd need better close-ups. Where did you buy these coins?

Those look funky..could be pics though I agree. Anyway I love Morgans, just when you think you have a hold of it, many vams I.e.1878's keep things quite interesting. Only downfall unless you have deep pockets they are very difficult to complete a full set especially in ms/au.

Yeah, I apologize, I am pretty bad with a camera. I picked them up today from a local coin shop. When you say you "don't like the rims and denticles" do you mean they could be fakes, or just poor quality?

One or the other, but I wouldn't be able to say without better close-ups. Maybe some of the guys who have better eyesight can focus in on the rims. They just look sloppy to me, and the denticles is one of the hardest things for the counterfeiters to get right.

No, the pictures don't show sufficient detail to make any kind of judgement. They're not MS coins for certain, and not much eye appeal from those pictures--beyond that, the photographs are not detailed enough to make any observations.

Thanks, I will try to post some better photos. I'm just starting out so wasn't looking/expecting to score MS coins for a few bucks above spot, just hoping to learn a thing or two before risking more money on qulity - I appreciate your opinions!

    My opinion...

    '80-S is a 62
    '85-O is a 61
    '89 is a 55

None look counterfeit. None look improperly cleaned.

But supply us with sufficient photos and my opinion may change - maybe in your favor, or maybe not.
