My grandma had a bag of world coins and I checked for any silver. I know all of these pesos and centavos have been devalued by 3 zeros. She wanted to throw them away but I thought I'd ask. Do coin shops buy these? I have a nice fat ziplock bag full of these. The silver colored ones are from the 70's and the coppers are from the 50's and 60's.
I have some of these older Mexican issues, but they're really not worth a whole heck of a lot. You'd probably be lucky to get 50 cents a pop for 'em. I wouldn't throw them away, but it's just not worth too much.
My grandma would be happy with 50 cents for everything! She thinks they're trash and I really only collect U.S. coins.
Someone here will buy them, silver or not, although postage may represent 50% of the price. If you have a "bagful," use a $5.35 small flat-rate Priority Box, that's the most economical shipping for a couple pounds of coins.
I always liked those large copper 50 centavos coins - they have to have been the largest actually circulating coins in North America during that time.
The first picture can't have any silver they are all from the 70's. The second picture is just copper coins. I checked the online Krause guide.
Coins such as these are often sold by the pound by dealers. They have value, but not much. I wouldn't throw them away though. Keep them in a world coin jar that you have or start one.
I do 2 things with coins like these. A) Try to start someone else in to collecting coins by giving them some cool ones, the idea there is you may inspire a new collector who can bring other items that you may not be able to find to the table, plus it usually generates a friendship either way. B) Try to sell in lots or by the pound to get some funds for anything i may actually want. For example, you have 5 pounds and you sell them for $5 per pound, you make $25 off of stuff you dont even want to go buy 2 pre-65 halves or whatever you may be in to
