Hello everyone! These two auctions on eBay were just brought to my attention from someone with a good eye. It was noted that both coins appear to have the exact same damage in the exact same spots, which seems more than improbable. It could be the same coin listed using two different accounts and two different sets of pictures, but I think more likely the (big feedback) sellers have (unknowingly?) acquired some Chinese fakes and are trying to sell them. I'm not very good at distinguishing Cast coins, but I would expect to see some degree of luster on these if they were actually Struck. Normally I wouldn't pay much attention to yet another fake on fleabay, but these are pretty good looking and Pricey. You can probably tell my opinion of them, but maybe they're real. I'd love some other opinions! http://www.ebay.com/itm/380559444342?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D380559444342%26_rdc%3D1 http://www.ebay.com/itm/330859358041?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D330859358041%26_rdc%3D1
On the reverse between 11 o'clock and 3 o'clock why do the valleys of the denticles extend into the rims like they were filed in? Guy
I think the coin is probably real, but I also think both sellers are selling the exact same coin. Exact same marks, exact same damage, even the same dark toning spot to the left of the end of the right wing.
I would guess the higher priced seller was listing it with hopes of buying it from the cheaper seller for less if "his" sold. Since someone has noticed this, maybe that is why the higher priced coin is "no longer available".
I am the seller of this coin on eBay (flintlock_coin_bullion), and I want to assure everyone this is NOT a counterfeit or fake. I know the guy who had the buy it now listing for the same coin, he is a local "dealer" near me (I use the word dealer loosely), and I purchased the coin from him recently. He was supposed to pull down his buy it now listing, but obviously forgot. He has since done so. I hope this puts an end to the speculation. The 2 coins in question are , in fact, the same exact coin. I stand by everything I sell and will accept a return for a full refund no questions asked if someone who purchases this coin isn't satisfied, and my feedback backs that up.
Thanks for clearing that up sir. Its very nice of you and we appreciate your effort to come here and explain the issue. I hope no hard feelings, and you can understand some people's worry about the situation.
I have been looking for this coin for several years but I would only purchase such a coin if it were professionally graded. The price just puts me out of the market when the seller says he is not a expert in one line then says he is in the next when talking about returns. Not meaning to insult but you might want to think about the wording in the description more carefully.
I have taken your advice and realize that the wording of my listing might be seen as confusing. What I was trying to say is that I'm not an expert coin grader, so I have revised my listing to reflect that. I do know plenty about coins themselves, I'm just not a professional grader, thanks for your feedback.
