What grade would you give this 1864 IHC? I think it is the 'no L' variety, and the blurry photos make it hard to see much more other than all the letters of Liberty are legible. After staring at these junk photos for a few days, I found myself bidding. One bid, jumped to my cap in one shot since it's the final day of the auction. What would my fellow members consider spending on one like this? I may slightly raise my cap, but IDK. Opinions?

well, it doesn't end for a few hours, so I'm gonna step away awhile and hopefully I get a few opinions before auction end. *nudge, nudge! ;) this is the only coin I saw worth bidding on in the whole auction, so its price bears the full force of shipping fees (which are reasonable, but I figure them in).

    1) It has to be a No L, since it is CN.

    2) Grade" VF, possibly

ok. I couldn't tell by the photos whether or not it was CuNi or bronze... How can you tell by these images? The way those CuNi's age brings them pretty near to bronze coloring sometimes, and I wonder how accurate the pictured coloration is compared to the actual coin's color. Thanks for your input! :thumb:

    How can I tell?

Only because it doesn't look like a copper.

But, I have been wrong before-- Just ask my wife.

:) Thank you. I probably won't raise my limit. Here's hopin' $15.99 (plus shipping) gets it. Not a cent more. We shall see!

Hour and a half left and now it's at $37?!?!? Craziness. Oh well. I know when to fold 'em :thumb:

The design is slightly different between the Bronze and CN varieties. The CNs seem to have more of a "soft" and rounded strike, while the Bronzes have more of a "sharp" strike. If you compare a CN and Bronze 1864 side by side you'll notice the difference pretty easily.

Hammer was $41! Looks like 2 guys got into a feud over it right at the end. Hope they like it! :)
