I have not yet gone to a coin show. Are there any tips you guys might know of to watch out for from dealers that might be looking for a rookie coin buyer. Also are the prices they put on the displays usually negotiatable*? Should I try to plan on certain coins I would like and memorize the going rates for them?

Don't say that you are new---but ask questions---don't carry a Red Book.

ALWAYS!---I once felt bad about asking for a lower price but found out that was the way to do business---just come out and say how much for this one---even though it has a price on it---either they will say ITS MARKED dummy and that is when you walk on---or they will work with you :D

I have never come accross a bad coin dealer at a coin show. And I have gone to a lot of them. I always try to not act so nervous

Hurray for coin shows. I love them. Of course around here there are just to many. We have a minimum of three coin shows a month within 12 miles of my house. I go to them all. Then there are the occational semi annual or annual coin shows around here also. Some are OK and some are just to big. The international ones really stink. At those if your not buying something in the thousands, people appear to smirk at you. Might be my imagination. All of the ones around here have free admission, free parking, high food prices and lots of nice people. The big shows charge to get in and charge to park and the food cost even more.
Now as to prices at a show. Never pay what the dealers are asking for a coin. If they won't play the hagle or chew down price game, I walk away. If you find a dealer that is really giving you what you think is a good deal, ask for a business card just to see if he is in this business or just a one night stand type person. Regular dealers, if you get to know them, will usually drop the prices down for you if your a regular customer. Talk to all the dealers as much as they will allow. This makes them remember you better. Ask lots and lots of questions not only to learn but to see it the dealer knows what he is talking about. ONe thing I've noticed is if you get to know a dealer you can actually put in requests for some coins you may want and at a price you are willing to pay. They usually have more sources than the average person.
I don't know what your coin shows are like but if the food is anything like around here, eat before you go or wait till later to eat.

well since in a noob at coins lol they would lower the price i mostly looked in bargain baskets that prices were already cut for my cents then if it was like 33 dollars it would be 30 so i got it cheaper but when i go to a big show there not gooing to be nice so ill be sure to hagle

As I said in other places the Red Book is a great book to get info such as mintages and such but for prices and such its really not the best tool----and dealers know this so when a person uses it they put them in the NEW Class.
