Wow... Watching HSN again and they were selling the 1986 Proof ASE with OGP for $179.95...speechless. I know they have to make money to cover all the costs of TV, etc, but wow. Bets part was they sold out, he had 150 of them and they sold out in 5 minutes. I bought mine in a local coin shop for $60 out the door. It amazes me to think of the people that actually buy this stuff off TV, they probably think they are leaving their families well off when they leave their HSN sourced coin collection. I still love to watch these shows, if nothing else, just for a laugh.
Crap! I got one a couple months ago for $50 if I remember correctly.... Wonder what their profit margins really are vs how much they're spending on overhead....????
Guys, isn't this a good sign for our hobby!? This shows there is demand from coin collectors even at inflated prices! If you can sell an '86 ASE proof for $180 go for it! HSN also may also increase awareness of the hobby. I like to think not everybody is stupid. People will pay what they feel is fair. I have never actually seen HSN deceive buyers with false information or replicas.
HSN is not a venue that attracts real coin collectors. HSN is a venue for grandpas that know little to nothing but want to buy something that they can leave to their grandchildren that they think might pay for college.
