Hey friends I got my half dollar today and I wanted to ask what y'all think? I didn't get the one for $85 so mine is the cheaper of the two, I may get the pricier one once I see how popular the coin becomes. This one I just may keep and make it my pocket piece coin but idk. Anyways, this is a beautiful coin that was expertly created as Daniel does the best job possible. With that said, I will mention what is wrong with it. In comparing to the US Mint issue of a 1964 theirs has smoother fields. As you may be able to see, the fields in my coin are a bit matted or rough, just not as crisp as the US Mint. I know Mr. Carr doesn't want to mint complete copies so it's a bit difficult to access what he intended and what he couldn't overcome. Anyways, I am really happy with this purchase and I may buy two more. :D BTW, if anybody got theirs yet, please show. :thumb:

very nice coin. i wanna get the 1975 version. that was the year i was born and because of the bicentennial issues i don't have a true version from my birth year. i was thinking about getting the less expensive version as well. just can't see paying $75-85 for one

Daniel Carr is a talented artist , I wish he;'d stop making these fantasy pieces as down the road someone is going to be fooled by them . I'd buy one of his original designs but not one of these , the last straw was when he used real bust halves for the blanks for garbage like this . Why anyone would destroy any coin made before 1836 is beyond me , is he even a coin collector ? Or just making a fast buck .

OoooKkkk, the last few times this subject came up, it was very heated discussions as to the coins, designs, minter, etc. That is not going to occur in this thread. Be polite and non-aggressive in nature . Thanks

1975 is a memorable year for me too (although for a different reason) but I do not see why he used the Bicentennial reverse. It makes no sense and is rather cheesy IMO. I may have actually considered buying one as a gift had he used the (would have been) proper reverse.

That said, I do not like what Mr. Carr does, nor do I accept this so-called "fantasy coin" concept. I do respect his entrepreneurial spirit, the quality of his work, and the rights of his customers to collect his product, but anyone who thinks that only he can do this are kidding themselves. People here regularly make jokes about the often low quality of some counterfeit coins, but they need look for further than Mr. Carr to see what could and can be done by those with less than noble intentions.

Shoot Jim, the fire ain't started yet so why all the red ink? :)

Rusty, I tend to agree......to a point. I understand your passion for busties, and how you feel that Daniel may be destroying the 'beasts in the wild', but I'm sure it's done humanely, with well worn, cleaned and details graded stuff.

Ken did he take the time to check each coins Overton # , even if he used cleaned and worn coins , there isn't an infinite # of these Busties laying around , all are collectable especially if it is an R-5 or greater . Just my 2 cents .

I'm not a big fan of the Kennedy Half, but Mr. Carr did a very nice job with it. I have to say I do like most of his work. Collect what you like, Fret, and don't worry about what others think. You're on this earth to live your life and not somebody else's.

I'm pretty sure it states right on his website that he used all genuine Kennedy halves to strike these Fantasy pieces.... For the 1963, he uses all 90% 1964 Kennedy halves; with 400+ million minted I don't think he is making a dent in the population of BU 1964 Kennedy halves. So no Crusty Busties laid to waste on this mission. Also, he does offer the 1975 with the regular reverse in both clad and 40%. I have never owned any of his pieces; I will soon though. To each man his own on this matter, but unless he is convicted of a crime and locked away from his coin press; I will buy anything and everything I want from him :)

All I gotta say is I'm really happy with my purchase, don't know if I'm gonna resell or not, I think it depends on how much profit I'm gonna make. I don't know why some people feel like he is somehow breaking the law as he has been thoroughly vetted by the US Mint. Oh well, I guess everyone needs somebody to hate on. :D

Fret , you should know me better , I really don't care what anyone collects . It's none of my business . Plus I don't dislike the man , I just don't agree with what he's doing .

While I have a Kennedy half dollar, it took this European a while to realize what is "wrong" with that 1963 piece. :D What I don't quite understand is: If a company such as the National Collectors Mint makes a "one dollar" piece which is sleazy in some regards but does not resemble any US coin, the FTC tell them that it should say COPY somewhere. And here?

I got mine yesterday, along with a copper amero (which is really beautiful). I wholeheartily support DC and all he does; a fantastic artist and one heck of a nice guy. I had some technical questions about the minting process (that I asked through his website) and his response was immediate and comprehensive.

Thanks for the tip on the Amero. I just ordered it in silver. It looks fantastic in the picture. That is the kind of creativity and design that makes collecting interesting. U. S. Mint, are you listening?

I love DCs work, I'm not sure ho he gets away with not includin copy somewhere on the coin though. I wonder if it is because he does it over genuine coins.
