I got this at a coin shop in Anderson, Indiana. It was called Coin Express. Tell me what you think! :) I bought for $50 IMG_0728.jpg IMG_0733.jpg IMG_0730.jpg IMG_0732.jpg P.S. Sorry if this post is all messed up. I'm on a really bad computer and it won't let me move picture etc.

NGC values the VF at $80 for the 1797, so $50 sounds good. Never heard of NGS

    Oooooh Kay,
I would not have made the purchase. Simply because of the slab. These non-name grading services pop up so the dealer can save a few bucks getting a coin graded by a known entity. Since, the coin isn't "worth grading" by one of the top 3 (PCGS, ANACS or NGC) I suspect problems.

Secondly, as for a resale, I only want coins graded by one of the top 3.

I googled NGS. Their websites no longer available.

Saying that you would not buy a coin simply because of its holder is very short sighted. It is not as if this was a multi-thousand dollar buy here. Should you trust the label? Of course not, but there are plenty of decent, low-value coins that, for whatever reason, ended up residing in junk plastic. Would you not buy a raw coin from a dealer because he chose not to throw money down the drain and instead threw it in a 2x2 labeled as he saw fit? Regardless of what type of holder a coin is in, even top TPG plastic, use your own judgment. Doing so can often save the knowledgeable buyer money.

    OP,

Being as I am not familiar with this type and cannot clearly see the photos, I will not venture an opinion, but please do not automatically think that there is anything wrong with the coin simply because of the holder it came in. Hopefully someone will soon come along to give a knowledgeable and honest opinion.

I agree with BB4C. Buy they coin and ignore the holder.

Personally though i have bought these cheaper. A big thing to look at are the edges, they got bruiser easily due to their weight.

Cool coin, I have one as well but mine shows a bit of an alloy standstill. That's what I call it anyways, hope it shows up. :thumb:

    cashforcoins, you show a twopence
of the same year and design as pcalverts 1797 cartwheel penny.
I have one of each myself with less detail ( I like the rims on these that are often found battered ) that I bought in 2012. and there was a spare penny that came with my twopence.

Paid $10.50 shipped for this penny

    [IMG] [IMG]

and paid $28.64 shipped for this twopence that came with another cartwheel penny.

These and russian five kopeck pieces from catherine the great are huge copper 18th century issues that are fun to own. They always get comments from noncollectors too.
