Guess I am not an IKE collector. I didn't even know what you were talking about (talon head). I did the research and I guess this would be a "grade B". Amazing, now I'll have to go back and look at all the others. I just picked them up here and there over the years thinking they were just a dollar that nobody spent. Guess when you specialize on a particular coin you learn all sort of interesting things. Why I love coin collecting. Any idea of what it is worth?
Most likely, it was in a mixed roll, still looks good. However, now that it has been identified as a super duper, genuine "talon head" Ike, it's status has been officially elevated to the unique category. BTW, I found 2 more, another 1971-D and a 1974-D, both XF.
I was not putting down your find at all and apologize if you took it the wrong way. Congrats on the other two finds..........:thumb:
Posted these in the newest acquisition thread also but since this thread is Ike's only a repost can't hurt. Decided I'd pick up my first slabbed Ike's recently. I actually gave them to my two daughters based on who opened which one. My youngest four year old got the 71' and my almost six year old got the 73'. The 71' has beautiful even yellow toning obverse and reverse; which is what is making the luster look impaired. I can't figure out how to exactly show it off without juicing the photos so I just left them as took. Probably slowly complete the set slabbed as they are attractive in hand. I already have a bunch of blue silver Ike's, a few brown Ike's. I also have a bunch of sealed silver bicentennial complete sets that featuring the bicentennial Ike as I was buying them right around or below spot for a time. Wish that was still the case but they seemed to become more popular as bullion items and premiums moved up. I also have two silver proof bicentennial sets probably have to try and snap a photo of them some time also.
Haven't been buying much lately but this caught my eye the other day. The 72-P was my main reason for buying it because it looks to be in nice condition although with the pics it could just as well be a dog and there is the remote possibility that it could be a type 2. I will re post with better pics when the coins come in the mail
Hard to see in the straight on photo. I had to tilt the coin to show. Easy to see in hand, but have to hold at proper angle. It jumps right out. Any special value on these? I'll try a different angle Battery died in camera, took this with cell phone
I just picked up a nice group of 10 "Brown Box" Ikes. Although common, they all have toning occurring. I always liked the nice blues and sometimes wild patterns that occur on the brown Ikes. This group was cool because all of them have noticeably different toning patterns and color intensity.
Nice coins although common some of them can be strikingly beautiful with a DCAM. It doesnt look as though any are the scarce micro S variety although you might want to check for yourself as its hard to see the MM in the pics....
Just going through some old photos on my lap top and I can't remember if I have shared this one or not. I had to buy it with the nice strike through on the reverse.
Hmmm..I kinda like it. You are right, the strike is horrible for a 74...looks more like a 71! But i like the "icy" look it has.
I love the look of these and would like to buy some similar to this . I know the 73 is more but wondering what the 71,72 & 74 brown boxes go for ? Ebay looks to be around $14 -$15 is that good ?
