I need help identifying if I have a L series or not. I've read about the "pointed" and "rounded" bust, but I just can't tell.
The third one is a CN, so its a definite no. As for the two others, their condition basically negates any real added value, even if they can be identified as having been L coins. I am not on my normal computer and cannot see enough to say either way.
the 1864 L has a pointed bust, not a rounded one like the non-L, so this is used more for an answer than actually seeing the 'L' although that is by far the best. However, corrosion and wear sometimes makes determining the bust hard. I can't tell for sure from the photos, so google the subject for comparison photos. Jim
The bust on the one in the middle might be pointed, hard to tell. If so, it might have a bit of value--$ 64 if rated "good" (per the Red Book.)
Problem is that even if either can be identified as being an L coin, the conditions throw any relation to a supposed "book value" out the door, and this is beyond the fact that most guides are already way high to begin with. I do not mean to sound harsh, but they are basically culls anyway.
