Hello everyone! fisrt time post here. I need your advice on a coin I recently aquired. Its a 1878 US One Dollar Coin. Its in near mint condition. There is a tiny "S" stamped on the coin on the bottom above where it says one dollar. I will try an post a couple pictures. In the mean time, could anyone tell me the approx value of this coin? Much Thanks
Hello, and welcome. It's tough to be specific, without seeing the coin, but I can give you a general idea. An 1878-S Morgan dollar, that would grade in the EF-AU range, would probably sell for something like $15-$40. An average of $25-$30 would narrow it down a little more. Hope that helps.
that looks nothing like the one I have. Mine has a female head, with a banner that says liberty in her hair. and says E PLURIBUS UNUM on the head side, and the other side has an eagle facing the front with its head cocked to the left.Above the eagle it says in god we trust... In the eagles claws, looks like arrows, and something else. There is a partial wreath around the bottom, below the eagle. and on the eagle side it says united states of america one dollar.. I will try and get a picutre, I just dont have a good camera at the momment
Just make sure you've reduced the photo to below 100KB in size using your photo program and then follow these instructions: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=8566
Do you mean that my avatar looks nothing like your coin? If so, I'd have to agree. My avatar is a Jefferson nickel. Your coin would look like this...
Sorry I know nothing about coins, other than how to spend it HAHA Yes the ones you have posted in the links look just like that...and in extremely good condition. SO I take it that the prices that you posted above would be what mine would be worth...thank you for your time
cofused this site i found has a bunch of numbers about prices. I just wanna know if my coin could be woth alot more than i think http://www.pcgs.com/prices/frame.chtml?type=date&filename=morgan_regular PLease get back to me
I'm afraid I've been as much help as I'm going to be. I've been as honest as I can be. I've researched completed auctions, and checked current dealer price lists. Good luck.
PCGS's price guide is a hyped up price guide--you could could be worth $9 or more---more than likely its worth around what Jody said----we really can't tell a value untill we can see photos of both sides of the coin. Speedy
