Got my 3 piece silver set...

So, my set said it shipped on Friday and I got it on Saturday. Not too bad. I like the set very much. I think the mint did a fine job with this set.

I do have one concern though. On my 2006W Unc. coin (the coin that I think is the least financially valuable of the set), there is a small hit on the coin that looks like a line about 1/16 of an inch long on the left leg of Liberty (which unfortunately falls smack dab in the middle of the coin). I wonder if this is worth returning the set over and getting a new one. The proof and reverse proof are Very nice coins, well centered and in great condition. I'm thinking that if I return the set because of the hit on the Unc., with my luck, I'd get a new one that had a problem with the Proof or worse yet, the Reverse Proof! My wife tells me I am way too anal... probably true. What would you do or have you done in situations like this in the past? Would you just keep it and enjoy it or try to return it in hopes of getting three virtually flawless coins in the set?

Oh, a note about the Reverse Proof also. It is a gorgeous coin. An interesting thing about it is that I can see the lines in the metal from where it looks like the silver that the planchet was punched from was rolled out. All of the lines are going in the same direction. They're subtle, but there. I don't see them on either of the other two coins. I just thought that was interesting.

Oh, and before you ask, my camera and picture taking skills are terrible, so we'll have to wait for somebody else to post pictures of the set. ;)

It sounds like die polishing marks, but it's hard to say for sure without seeing the coin.

    Hello to the forum,

I just received my six sets and noticed these same lines. The frost in the fields is not the same as regular proofs. They run at about a 45 degree angle on both the obv and rev.

"On my 2006W Unc. coin (the coin that I think is the least financially valuable of the set)"

The 2006W unc is the second most valuable coin in the 3 piece set. The least valuable is the standard proof coin that has been available from the mint all year. The 2006Wunc is limited to 270,000 plus however many they sell as singles. No where near the 3+million regular issue 2006 unc bullion coins that were issued this year. When the dust settles the 2006W unc will be a couple hundred dollar coin in MS69.

Good point andrew289. So, what do you say to my original question? Exchange or keep?

if you are, as your wife says, that anal  I would buy a single coin of the one you dont like, and replace it in your set.

I like Daggarjon's idea. Buy the single coin and swap it out.

Or buy 2 or 3 singles to put back. At 20 bucks ... it might be a sleeper.
I think I'll probably go back for another 10 singles now that I think about it.
