I know Mr. Kelly is a renowned expert when it comes to Nationals...I have a copy of his book and it is an excellent resource. For some time now, I have been perusing his website and he has several notes I am interested in adding to my collection. Has anyone here ever purchased from him? He is a good person to deal with and are his prices reasonable?
He does have a great inventory. I've purchased a few Virginia and Massachusetts nationals from him a few years ago and the transactions went smoothly. I would contact him directly first, sometimes he doesn't rotate the sold notes out of his site, and he regularly attains new inventory that he doesn't show for sale on there either.
Richie: Prof. Kelly was one of my top resources for notes. He is honest, personable, knowledgeable and always willing to answer my questions. You would do well to establish a relationship with Don.
Good to know. Thanks guys. I sent him an email last night to see if he has any Eugene notes in his inventory and if not that I am always looking for them if he happens upon any. I'm in the process of going through my circulation finds (which are several hundred dollars in face value)...many might be returning to circulation to allow that money to be reinvested into a couple good pieces. The majority of those finds came from when I worked at the bank and have sat in bank envelops for the last five years. They were fun to find...but I think would be better off being reinvested.
Don has one of the largest inventories of Nats around, a great guy to deal with and a good source for information when you have "discoveries" as I have made a few times particularly with Original Series Nats. Kind of funny you are thinking of divesting of the circ finds - I have quite a bit of them saved up also and am now wondering why I have money tied up in old bills that don't hold much if any value over face.
I just purchased a FR.1264 10c fractional off of him a couple of days ago, he was very helpful and had prompt responses through email
VERY NICE! It complements your name and location very well. Me living only 15 minutes from Tampa, I find this very intresting. :hail:
Don isn't going to talk your ear off, but he is a good source for notes. He sends stuff quickly and I think his prices are pretty reasonable. I've flipped some stuff I bought from him I bought a few months ago I'm not interested in, and I was able to make around 10 percent, even with E-bay fees. His prices are fair. You might get better deals at a Heritage auction for more of his more obscure national bank notes, but any of the general large or small material he posts is pretty fairly priced. The only weird thing is, I think because he is an old dude, he doesn't do Paypal, just credit card or check. But whatever.
noob76: Prof.Kelly is a revered Physics Professor (Univ. Miami Ohio) and I am sure he would not enjoy be called "an old dude" Just a heads up for you so you can keep your :foot-mouth: out of your mouth.. He has only accepted CC for a couple of years now..before there was no CC purchases.
