I'm hoping some of the experts here could help me out with thoughts on whether or not this coin looks authentic or looks to be a fake. Also if it appears to be authentic thoughts on its grade or value? Thanks

The coin weighs 13.43 grams, there is also a double profile on Libertys neck and lower lip. DSCF5144.jpg

Weight is in tolerance , plus I've seen numerous coins with double profiles , or necks .

and the double profile is strike doubling

I haven't checked the Overton number, but there is nothing that screams suspicious about this coin as far as I am concerned.

Nice example ya got there. Quick question, why did the 'PLURIBUS' seem to wear heavily on these coins?

The Pluribus does not "wear" heavily but it actually does not get filled in from the strike. If you flip the coin, you will notice on Capped Bust Halves, the Pluribus is directly opposite the thickest part of the bust on the obverse. If the strike was weak, the area around the Pluribus gets starved of metal as bust gets filled.

These halves were hand struck with screw presses, so the weak strikes are common.

Gotcha. That's been my biggest turn off so far with this series. I can't find the coin I want at the price I need. Guess ill wait this one out for a couple more years.

I agree , seems like most of the E-D and I-T relationships are close for a lot of the overtons , but the giveaway is stripe 1 where lines 2 and 3 are joined . Also the higher 8 in the date and the small lump in the field by star 5 .

    agreed, O-109
