Wow -I thought the Gold and Silver would be sold out by now -20,000 sets is very low and with a first for bullion coins with mint marks.

    What happened?

    gold sucked

because one out of a million collector collect gold coin. 10k or 20k is considered to be many. another thing is that this seires on key date or rare thing is done. 1995 w 10th anniversary set is the winner.

both coins are being sold independantly of the 20th anniversary set, so sales have slowed and a fair number of people who ordered the set have cancelled their orders.

I didn't think thw "W" mint mark was on any of the uncirculated coins.

The Gold Set is sold out, and both the gold and silver sets (3 coins total per set) contain a Reverse proof, which is not sold individually.

The mint, I think, has done their level best to confuse the daylights out of collectors in the hopes that they will sell more issues and thus make more money.

The only advantage to ordering any of the sets would be to get the reverse proof coins, as I think they are not being offered as singles. I could be wrong however.

yes, what he^^ said. They are.

The ONLY coins that are available in the sets are the reverse proofs, ALL other coins (including both coins in the 2 coin set) will be available as singles either from the mint or your local bullion dealer.

What a breach of trust from the US MINT!!! I ordered 3 sets and suggested to family members to order the set believing the limited mintage of 30,000 for the uncirculated 1 ounce w mint marked gold coin!!

I'm pretty sure I made my purchase of the gold and silver sets because they implied it was only available in these sets. None-the-less, I returned my order once I saw the individual coins. :(

Exactly, all the attention now is on the reverse proof. The unc W gold coin is a sleeper and might be overlooked by many. It's a great opportunity to get low mintage gold and besides..it's a beautiful coin.

I admit that I cancelled my 2 gold/silver sets but not out of anger, I just decided that I would rather have 3 unc W's for $2,160 instead. Getting the silver unc was a bonus in my mind anyway so letting that coin go is not that big of a deal.

If you can pick up the unc W gold, I would try to. It will definately be in demand and required to complete a 1oz gold collection. I think many chasing the reverse proof will bail and pick up the unc W instead.

Cancel the two coin set and buy the two individual coins. That saves you $110, which is enough to buy a three coin SAE set. So for the same money instead of getting an Unc 2006-W gold and Unc 2006-W Unc Silver, you get an Unc gold, a proof silver, a reverse proof silver, and two unc W silvers. Your basicly getting the proof and reverse proof silvers for free.

I can't find any info on the reverse proof silver in the red book and am trying to decide if I should purchase the 3 piece American Eagle 20th Anniversary Silver Coin Set for 100 bux. Don't have the funds to do the gold or platinum set or I would go that route, but I thought I might try to get some silver sets and sell the reverse proof later to pay for them. Or is it just the gold reverse proof thats actually going to go up in value enough to make it worthwhile?

There just is no gaurantee that any coin is going to go up in value enough to make it "worthwhile", speculating on coins is risky business at best. Best advice is to buy coins because you like it, and any increase in value is a plus.

That is some very sage advice. Thanks much. I guess I had better just not do it. I'll wait till I get the house built first. Then just hope something comes out next year thats worth buying.

When anyone on here gets theirs* graded let us know what grades you get on em. I'm extremely curious about how they all turn out. Good luck and hopefully you all get atleast one 70 in your collection.
