You could spend a lot of money slabbing all or even a large portion of those coins. As others have suggested, I would limit it to key dates or coins over a certain value threshold.

I also have a decent sized collection as far as total numbers of coins. My rule of thumb is to slab the key dates in any series, and I won't buy a coin over $500 unless it's slabbed/authenicated by a major TPG. Those guidlines might be a good starting point if you don't want to break the bank slabbing entire series of coins.

OP, you are new here, but I will echo Doug's thoughts. Tom is a very knowledgable man and could help you a lot. Also, NEARLY everything Doug says I treat as gospel, he is the long serving "wisdom dispenser" here on CT.

I am currently going out of my element of stacking silver for just bullion value and getting into collecting the silver state quarters for appeal. If you wanted to spend the money I would recommend the silver SQ I think its a real nice set.

 

What will be your first 15-20 coins to submit to PCGS?
Maybe that will help us make some suggestions.

 

Someone mentioned something that I think would be a good idea for you as well, the Kointain or Cointain coin holders. After your four freebies, I would look into that. If you're not selling them and just want to have them protected long term, that would be your best bet. I've got about half my pennies in them right now, they're not space savers by anymeans, but more sturdy and have more longevity IMO than 2x2's.

You are right...being a "newbie" to the forum i do not know who is who yet.
I am not the kind of person to push myself on someone,so whatever happens will happen.
I think..agree or not...I am going to start with silver proofs and proofs.
Just statehood (and that is the general term for state,terroties, and parks) + SAC&Native +Presidential, will be, financially speaking, enough for 1-2 years.
The next question...and I do NOT want an answer now...have PCGS crack and grade the Goodacre or leave it alone (i am 1930 out of 5000) or something close to that.

Not answering your question...asking one myself. Why have it re-graded? It's been graded already by ICG...unless you think it could be a Type 1 that was missed in the first run.

PCGS sells memberships to their Collector's Club in order for the general public to send coins directly to PCGS for grading. The various membership levels have different costs and different benefits. By joining, you are not necessarily getting "free" grading; you are merely paying a reduced fee for grading upfront and then have to abide by their restrictions. A link is below-

I like this thread. You have asked some good questions and gotten some good responses without a lot of additional "noise" about other topics. The responses have been short and succinct - but very good.

You can tell that people have different ideas about what you should do. That's typical. The theme of "it's up to you" is one seen throughout the community with many topics.

It sounds like you have given this quite a bit of thought already, but if your intent is to (1) put your coins into something (rather than leaving them loose) and (2) conserve them, you have a number of options. You will find many threads on this site about just that. It's cheaper than slabbing and you can customize the presentation! Imagine the cool things you can do with your personal presentation of your cool hobby! Even as far as furniture to put the coins and books and whatnot into!

PCGS has 2X2 mylar flips that I use for my raw coins that aren't worth grading.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
