Does a Bank Teller Stamp hurt the value of CURRENCY ?

I am looking at a very nice $1000 FRN. Its 1934 Extra Fine Mule. The problem is the price seems to be almost too low. The only problem I see is it has a preety huge teller stamp right across the face. Is this why it is being offered so cheaply ? How badly does a teller stamp hurt the value ? I know that writing on the bill would hurt the value, but I would have thought a teller stamp wouldnt really affect it at all. Now I am thinking maybe it does. Is this a big concern ? Thanks in advance.

I would assume that the stamp would prevent the note from being graded by a third party. It's vandalism, essentially.

Wow. I guess thats why the price is so low. I never would expect a bank teller stamp to even matter. Guess I dont know about about currency collecting.

It does matter because it detracts from the note - the bigger the stamp the lower the premium the note is going to have.

    I wouldn't mind seeing a photo.

It technically "kills" the value. Picture a harshly cleaned coin compared to an original one. It's the same value difference.

i doubt you'd wash that note, so i'm assuming photoshop was involved ;)

The black bar in the lower right hand cornet seems to be greatly faded on the picture where the stamp has been removed, so I say it was washed but not without consequence.

No way I would have the guts to pay $1800 for a bill then try and wash it.

    The J's all faded.

" The federal reserve bank of kansas city " faded

I have to admit I like it less with the red teller stamp than if it was black - black is more normal for a teller stamp and the red is really distracting. The only thing in it's favour is that it is on the St. Louis FRB, it is a better bank.
