And priced so much higher than others to include the 1998 that was the last year of the Eagle Quarter? I ask, as I am somewhat working my way backwards so to speak...I'm short a 2010 set, but have all others and am now to 1997. Thanks for your input and knowledge guys!

Silver or regular issue. Which one are you referring to?

    Huh?

This is the first I've heard of this. To me, a 1997 is just another set.

Of course, there were "multiple" variations of the 1997 Proof set. Which one would you be referring to?

    Standard CnClad?
    Silver?
    Premium?
    Prestige?

The premium sets were a 'rip' back in the day. I picked 'em up in the after market for a song about 7 years ago.....

Thanks for the link! I try to cap my spending on the sets to less than 20, I even managed an 08 proof set for $30, got it at a garage sale, and the guy I got it from didn't collect coins so he asked what I'd pay, so I said $30 and he said SOLD!

Was just wondering why it was (97) higher than others for no apparent reason.

as I recall the 1995 silver is the key

It isn't a key, it just hasn't fallen all the way yet. In a few more years it will probably be a "junk" set selling below issue price. A few years ago the 1995 clad set was selling for as high as $150, today it's $8. The 97 used to be higher as well. Just be patient.

Morgandude11 As long as it's Silver, I'm listening

This past year's Silver proof set (2012) will be a 'Key" to the degree that modern proof sets, insofar as the mintage was much lower than usual.

The 1995 Silver was low mintage. Then the 2010 was lower. Enter the 2011. Lower yet. Now it's the 2012. So where are future mintage numbers going? HA! WHO KNOWS???

I must be missing something isn't the 1999 silver proof the key date? Or are you guys just talking about clad sets?

I was talking about Silver Proof Sets. I think the 1999 Silver Proof Set had over 800,000 as a mintage.

Oh I thought you guys were talking about the value, because if I remember correctly the 1999 is a higher mintage but is more valuable than the 1997.

The 1999 was hot there for awhile. I believe like $300.00 or so. Now, no. I seen some a few days ago for $95.
