Nobody else has posted yet so I will - I just had a blast at the show ! It was great, and to be honest I hardly had any time to cruise the floor just looking at coins. But I got to see lots and lots of coins. They just happened to belong to people, other forum members, who also attended the show. That's kind of how it is for me though, the people are the important part for me. I got to meet several more that I had not previously met and several that I had met previously. But I think the most fun for me was sitting out on the patio with cpm9ball (Chris), lydshair (Larry, hope I spelled your user name right), Leadfoot (Mike), saltysam (Mel), know there were a couple more but I'm having a brain cramp , and even 2 or 3 others who I have no idea who they were, but they joined right in the conversation with us. But we all sat there around a table talking about and looking at coins for about 3 hours. And it was great, I loved it ! More fun than I've had in a long time ! 'Course I got to see Charmy, but only for a minute; she was on her way out to catch a plane as I was on my way to go see her. Missed being able to chat with her Got to see Roger & Todd (bluevette), jhinton, and a friend I've known for many years but somehow always missed, John Baumgart. And there were several others that I missed or couldn't find at their tables, sorry for that. But I'll catch up to them next time I hope Anyway, it was great ! And I urge all of you to try and meet up with folks at shows wherever & whenever you go to shows. You'll be glad you did !
It was good to finally meet you, Doug. Larry's handle is spelled ldhair, I believe. We'll have to do it again next year!
Sounds like a good time, wish I was closer. I'll still have to try and make it some year, preferably when I've got more money to spend!
Going to a large show like this should be considered a numismatic necessity for all collectors, IMO. Even if you don't spend a penny (and I know many collectors who don't), just the experience of meeting with other collectors and seeing lots of coins in dealer's cases and during auction lot viewing is virtually invaluable.
It was a great show. I made it home a few hours ago. For me, there is nothing like hanging out with friends and talking coins while everyone can actually see the coin in hand. I only bought one coin but was able to buy a Lincoln plaque I have been trying to buy from the same dealer the past two FUN shows. I'll post more when my brain is working.
You know, I saw the title of the thread and the last person I thought I would see it initiated by is you Doug (just joshing ya) Glad you had a great time as well as the others who were lucky to attend. I'll get to see Charmy in San Jose in a few weeks.
I would have asked to see what you picked up. But then I remembered, you don't buy coins anymore. Good to hear the show was fun though. Have you ever attended the NYINC? am wondering if you would like a show like that.
Doug, I am sooooo sorry I didn't get a chance to chat with you at the show, I was really looking forward to it. I think next year I will have to make arrangements to stay through Sunday too so I don't have to leave too early on Saturday to catch a plane! It was a fantastic show - my best ever! Here's a link to my show report, including a photo of Doug! http://www.cointalk.com/t220720/#post1615084
same here would love a chance to meet some of you guys and gals After I look at all the pretty shinies
I feel lousy that I couldn't go, after making plans to be there. Was looking forward to meeting the folks, but unfortunately, had to have the knee done. Well, better luck next year.
Yes, it was fun sitting outside and talking all that time, and I finally got to meet a couple for the first time as well........Mel (SaltySam) and Mike (Leadfoot). I hope that we can make this a ritual from year to year. It was also great that we got to share the same table at the NGC Luncheon......Doug, Larry, Shane (Kryptonitecomics), Jason (Physics-fan3.14), John (Messydesk), Carl (username brainfart!) and me. It was amazing! I didn't sound off at the Q&A after the NGC presentation like I usually do. Chris
No I have never attended the NY show but I have always wanted to. If you take a look at the albums I have posted on my Profile page you'll see why. But I lived in Utah for 28 years and the almost 3000 mile trip, as well as the time of year always posed a problem for me due to my job. Same thing for FUN during all that time. But now, that I am retired, and live in FL once again, FUN is easy for me to attend, only about a 40 minute drive.
So was I Charmy As you saw, I was pretty surprised to see you walking out as I was walking in to go find you so we could chat for a bit. But there's always next year
I'm sitting at the Orlando Airport reading everyone's comments and reliving the FUN time we had. This is a definite must do for next year. Our impromptu meeting on Saturday was one my highlights. Putting faces on names I have seen on CT, will now make it even better, when on the forum. And thanks to Penny Lady for all the photo's that will go in my FUN folder as well. Great time! Sounds like a great time was had by all. Sometimes I wish I were an east coaster to make such trips easier. I have tried to meet up with more CT members at CICF but not much luck so far. I am thinking it would probably be easier to talk the wife into Florida in Jan than NYC, but unfortunately, (fortunately), my son/daughter will be about 5 months old next Jan so I doubt I will be able to attend. Ah well, like everything in coin collecting the challenge and the wait sometimes is funnest part.
I've never been to Florida, surprisingly. Maybe a FUN show is just the excuse I need to go there some time. Guy
