    Howdy all,

With regards the 3 pc silver set, which I've ordered, it seems that they are now going to mass produce the silver unc's with the W mint mark (I've also ordered).

Is there any knowledge that they will also separately sell the reverse proof?

It seems that so long as they don't separately sell the reverse version, this set will have legs.

    thoughts?

    thanks, ND86,

If they're not going to issue the reverse proof separately, then that leads to this particular set having the potential for a winning bet.

For the purists, while I'm a collector, with the kind of money that's involved on an annual basis for buying most of what they issue, at times it can strain the budget. Would that it were not so, and I could just buy 10 of everything. Alas and alack, I don' t have that kind of discretionary cash flow . . . so I have to pick and choose amongst the odd issues.

And let's face it, there are those issues that are pretty much a sure bet winner. The Marine Corps dollar, for example. Hey, we're at war so this was a pretty sure bet for being a triple like it has been (not to mention I was in the crotch from '67 to '70 and 'nam). Same situation with the buffalo dollar. With the gold buffalos, they just minted to many of the proofs for it to be a sure fire winner.

I'm also thinking the W mint silver AE uncs will be a winner because there is a limited supply.

    then again, who really knows.

    thanks again,

    rono

I believe the silver sets are going to be an important issure. The mintage is not that high in my opion . In addition to being what i think is a beautiful reverse proof, they are reasonably priced at this level

I've ordered a 3pc silver set and the Legacy set. I think due to all the excitement of the silver set, no one's talking about the legacy set. I'm tempted to cancel my order for the legacy set and order another 3pc silver set. On the other hand if the demand for the legacy set is lot it'll have the potential to increase in value. Any thoughts of this?

I'm not a collector of silver eagles. But if it does increase in price I would like to sell it and buy coins that would fit into my collection.

I can be a simple man =) so hopefulyl someone much smarter then myself can help clarify something for me. On these 3 silver dollars in the anniv set. One is proof, and is Unc and one is a reverse proof. That much i understand. The mint is selling the unc eagle now as well, i can understand that. What i dont understand is the differance in the bullion silver eagle and the unc eagle the mint is selling? I heard the two uncirculated coins were identical. but then i get an email from the mint adverstising the piece they are selling as this :

The United States Mint makes history in 2006 with the introduction of American Eagle Uncirculated Coins. Struck on specially burnished blanks and priced between the bullion and proof coins, American Eagle Uncirculated Coins feature a finish similar to their bullion counterparts, but carry the "W" mint mark reflecting their striking at the United States Mint at West Point

So if the two coins are priced diffferent, there must be a differance.

So is there now going to be 3 different silver eagles to collect on a yearly basis?

    anyone?

With the addition of the W mint mark, these coins are also encapsulated and come in presentation boxes which probably is the reason for the additional price.

Yesterday, the status for my order indicated a shipping date of 12/16/06. Today, it shows the status as reserved so they must be in the process of either shipping or getting ready to ship. ND86 posted that they will ship some this week so looks like he is on target. I ordered mine a few minutes after they went on sale. Wonder if I will get the "first strike" coins :)

My point exactly! I think this "first strike" fad will come to an end and the folks who pay a premium for that designation will regret it.

Sounds like a self-slabber fad to me.

Dano83 - I thought the Mint was still selling this set so I see no reason why you should not get your order.

The 2005 Legacy is the FIRST Issue of the series and those always seem to increase in value!! I think having the Marine Corps Proof included helped this set a lot, BUT it still hasn't held on to it's initial price increase!! As for the 2006, I don't think having the BF Founding Father Proof is as much of a price getter as the MCProof. Don't buy the 2006 expecting a large price increase, just get ONE for a collection. I have th 2005 and I like everything about it BUT the $135.00 price, must be LOTS of LABOR involved in putting these together--HA!

my CC was charged today, so I expect the 3 coin silver set to arrive any day. With the stupid price these things are bringing on eBay ($175) considering they are still available from the mint, I couldn't in right mind keep my sets. They are listed for sale and I'm gonna have to re-order. lol, what a crazy world!

    silver 3 piece set

    thanks all for your replies,

rec'd coin world yesterday and the cover had a story from the mint that they do NOT plan to sell the reverse proofs other than in the set.

I reduced my legacy order from 3 to 1 and increased my 3 pc silver order from 3 to 5. Did it this morning.

    peace,

Now you got me thinkin' again Rono. This type of activity is dangerous to my wallet and I'm holding you responsible. :smile

I added two more sets to my existing order of three sets so that I can eventually sell the two sets and pay for the three sets that I am keeping. It may take several years to realize but I could end up getting the three sets for free.

Please refrain from thinking about this subject anymore. I just can't afford it this close to Christmas. :eek:hya:
