My new Richard III penny, my favorite king and coin in my collection because of all the history behind it
I think he was an amazing king and I hate the Tudors purely because of what happened to him and how the turned him into an idiot once he was dead. I think England would be quite different today if he won the battle of bosworth and he would of won if he wasn't let down by his friends, Richard's army was apparently much larger.
Have a bad case of the envies. Richard III is also a favorite of mine. Dude got a bad deal. Shakespeare & the Tudor's then trashed his reputation. The guy would have made a excellent king
English history is rife with bad raps. The vanquished always, well usually gets the bad rap. With the notable exception of HVIII who wasn't even the first in line to the throne but managed after the death of his brother to accede the throne and drive England to ruin. A ruin that only QE managed to undo. Her reign is my personal fave of the whole era. But you must wonder, what about the "princes in the tower"?
I honestly think it was the Tudors who made Richard into a bad guy, the victors can say what they want. I paid £270 ($435) for this what do you guys think?
being a lancastrian and seeing as richard was a yorkist i have never had any time for him, that said my favourite british leader of all time was the man who has suffered more than anyone at the hands of the royalist smear campaign........oliver cromwell.
Well they found him, so the timing on your coin is perfect. It's probably worth a lot more today. http://cosmiclog.nbcnews.com/_news/...d-under-parking-lot-its-king-richard-iii?lite
I think this is good news for him. He is getting some good press for the first time in 500 years. I guess Shakespeare was working for the Tudors, so now there may be a different slant on the history. It took digging him up to get the story told. Of course there still are the missing nephews...
Indeed, Shakespeare did him a disservice. Glad they found him, so often (99.99% of the time) these 'quests' to find things end up with little more than a few bits of pottery and a big hole in the ground. To find a lost king 528 years after burial is exciting indeed.
During the 17th century the remains of two boys were found behind a stairwell in one of the palaces - not sure whatever became of their remains but it was conjectured they were the two princes in the tower.
