i have been buying and selling on ebay for close to 12 years now. i have a perfect feedback rating over this time. i had a soldier send me a message asking since i only ship to US addresses would i consider shipping to an APO/FPO address overseas. i explained to this buyer, who only has 6 feedback, that i no longer ship to bases anymore because i have had many packages get lost or damaged in the past. so this person responds back to me "I appreciate your response and note your non-support of American troops serving in a foreign and sometimes hostile environment. Your Constitution gives you that right." i am sorry but i find that totally unbelievable to be called out saying i don't support the troops. so naturally i responded back to this buyer that i was appalled by their statement. i informed them that i have many friends and family that served in every branch of the military. a few of them have lost their lives in battle. i am only posting this because i am curious to hear how others feel about this. i know we have a lot of former and current military personnel on this site. how would you have handled this situation?
I'd ask if I could send the package to someone he trusts stateside. BTW I sent some iTunes giftcards to a soldier over there in the sandbox and just got a really nice thank you note yesterday.
Just let it roll off your back, you don't have time for all the nuts on ebay. I had a guy who just got out of the military and he wanted to buy a bust of MacArthur I was selling. I lowered the price per our agreement and the dude never bought it when I told him to. Someone else picked it up at full price and that nutcase was all over me accusing me that I never lowered the price. For the next few days I got email after email complaining and accusing. You can't win with some people no matter what you do.
i agree. to be honest if they would have responded back saying i understand but would you reconsider i probably would have. but to get the response i did was just shocking.
I'm guessing it was an over-reaction. There IS a lot of anti-military sentiment in this country, and the guys that choose to serve sometimes feel like they have to defend their decision, and sometimes that comes across as ad hominen invective. You gotta remember that most of these guys are young, and under a lot of stress. 99.99% of the guys I knew in the Army were paradigms of what the US military should be. But there are always a few a-holes, no matter where you go...
I agree with the others, I don't think the response was reasonable to your logical answer, and quite rude. You were looking out for the safety of what they would be buying, and he should have asked you if you would consider other shipping means instead of coming back at you that way.
thanks for all the responses. i knew i was in the right. i was just shocked to get a answer back like i did. oh well.
Pack your bags urban, someone is trying to send you on a guilt trip. Remember, if you don't ship to APO/FPO, you support terrorism.
Tell him he's not out defending your rights or your constitution... he's defending the business interests of the government and upper class of our nation. That he's merely a mercenary with a misguided sense of patriotism, when in reality, our military hasn't done much to defend our nation since WW2... That should get him going nice and good.** **Note that the above commentary does not necessarily represent or reflect my views on military service and servicemembers.
Note that the above commentary does not necessarily represent or reflect my views on military service, my friend... merely an attempt to troll the buyer for making it seem like the seller is a bad person for not shipping to locations where packages are frequently lost. The seller is making a smart and apparently informed (from personal experience, no less) business decision. I can respect that. If I were the buyer here, I would ask that the seller ship it to my parents or friends home, and I'd have them forward it along to me.
And to all u guys calling us that have served mercenaries you obviously know nothing about the military! Not everyone is out on the frontline a fighting and if they are it's because they care about this country. I worked on ch 53 helicopters does that make me a mercenary?
