It will be factored in the final price.

Do you have actual evidence to conclude such facts? Do you keep metrics on every seller on eBay to see how much each has raised their shipping rates? I mean, I've bought plenty of coins off eBay and I usually get them with free shipping. I want to know how you come up with such fabulous facts, please do tell?

No one forces any seller to use eBay or any other online auction, so why do sellers fuss about the fees? I mean, if eBay and every other online auction site just ceased to exist, sellers setting up their own shop and online presence would likely far exceed the fees they have to pay using these online services.

So, if you sell and you don't like paying fees, don't use these services online. Open your own site and you'll quickly see the amount of time and resources it takes, including marketing just so people know you are out there. With eBay and these other online sites to sell your stuff, they're basically doing the marketing for you to draw in buyers. A large portion of the work is already done for you when using established sites like eBay, so pay your fees due and stop complaining so much about them I say.

There is no such thing as free shipping. Free shipping is perhaps the biggest con of the 21st century.

    A $25, with $5 shipping, becomes a $30 item with free shipping.

Now most sellers try to charge as close to actual shipping as possible.

Do you really think a seller is gonna pay $4.95 actual shipping, and take a 9% hit on it, without raising the price? Come on.

Detecto, just how much are you selling on eBay these days? How does that qualify you to opin on people selling on eBay? There are measures involving volume of sales, costing etc that are factors in whether you can determine whether you can profitably use eBay.

Actually, yes there is. The biggest con of the 21st century? Wow, just wow!

That makes absolutely no sense. No, it's not a $30 item with free shipping, it's a $25 item that costs $5 to ship.

Where did you get those facts? I've bought plenty of coins where they'll charge $1.95 shipping only to then see they paid $1.00. Or some would charge $4.95 and then the package arrives with a $1.50 shipping price. So, again, are you just pulling facts out of your own rear end or do you actually have some evidence with this new claim you're making?

Where are you getting all these numbers? You're just playing a what if game as if it applies to every single seller on eBay.

The funny thing is, you have yet to answer my original questions.

Just to clarify free shipping. When I buy a coin for say $10 and it's value is around $10 and I wasn't charged extra for shipping, I'd call that getting free shipping. So stop pulling nonsense from your rear end, it just makes you look like an idiot when you do.

You are aware that KIA stands for Know It All, it also stands for Killed In Action.

    definer definitely....! LOL

I just listed a number of coins on eBay and each cost me a grand total of $0.30 to list. My final value fee for the item is 11%. I list my shipping charge as $1.99 to cover my packaging, my actual postage cost, and the trip to the post office for drop off. The $1.99 paid by the buyer will turn into $1.81 to me when the 9% is deducted as part of the final value fee. My PayPal cost will be 2.9% of the final value +$.30.

All this boils down to a final bid of $15 w/$1.99 shipping results in a cost to the buyer of $16.99 and roughly $14.24 to me minus my cost of goods and my actual shipping.

I sell almost exclusively from my website and at shows. However, I also list coins from time-to-time on ebay. This evening I sold a $1,400 coin on ebay and used the Fixed Price option. My fees from this $1,400 sale are as follows-

    Fixed Price Listing Fee; $0.00
    Sales Fee; $70.50
    PayPal Fee; ~$42.00

    Total; ~$112.50

This represents about 8% by selling through ebay. I offer free shipping whether it is an ebay purchase or a purchase from my site, so this is not included. However, it is a small amount. If the coin sold at GC for $1,400 then I would have net around $1,217 vs. the $1,288 through ebay.

Thanks Tom. That's very helpful to know. I hope GC turns out to be very good to work with, because that kind of service is what I'd like to have access to, someday.
