Hello everyone! I'm new to this but have become addicted over the past few months. I've recently found a 1960p lincoln cent that I need some help identifying. I've done a ton of research on this coin and the error varieties it has, but am having a very difficult time identifying what type of doubled die this is - I'm looking at the date, motto, and parts of liberty. I apologize if I'm off on the protocol for this forum, so please let me know my errors here, and I would greatly appreciate some help in identifying this. I'm including several photos, and my album here contains several more. Thank you for your help!!!
It can't be a RPM - This is a 1960P coin, there is no mint mark. The "D" in the pictures above is from the word "GOD" in the motto.
Looks like a small date. All the 6s for those look like that for the year. Decent pictures, I'd say the R looks like a hit, not doubling. The closest thing to doubling I see from the pics is the W but hard to say if its legit really. Welcome to the forum!
I thought it looked like a small date, too, but the nine is above the one and the six is extended, so i was thinking possible small over large/large over small? Also, the D in GOD has a visible niche in it's top left corner. In addition, does anyone have any idea what the clash looking marks are on the "d" and under the "e"? Coin is in beautiful condition and color, and has been well kept in a book for many years (collected by a father/son 30yrs ago in cent book), so very curious...
Sorry, the coin is a large date. There is no RPM as this is a philly coin. there was engraving doubling on the date in 1960, which might be what you are seeing. I cannot see anything that would indicate a doubled die. keep up the hunt!
The notching on the tail of the 9 may be doubling...check out the 1DO-005 on copper coins. Your photos are way to large to see anything. Look for the bar under the L of LIBERTY. Larry Nienaber
