Anyone Have A Clue What This Is??

Knowing my luck, this is probably junk but I have no idea what this coin is. Anyway, I was going though a small collection of coins that belonged to my grandmother just trying to identify them. I came across this odd coin and couldn't find anything similar to it. I usually do the best research I can on things before asking, but I couldn't find a thing about this coin. My guess is that it's an old token of some kind. The eagle at least makes me think it's American in nature. As it said, it is probably nothing, but I figured that would seek some expert advice as to what it even is:

It doesn't look like any counter token I've ever come across so I'm thinking it's play money for some type of game similar to Monopoly or something. Welcome to the forum. :thumb:

I've never seen any kind of play money made of metal...granted I don't have much knowledge on the subject either. Thanks for the reply though, I was just hoping to find some kind of definitive answer.

Play money used to be in metal before WWII. I have not seen your exact one that I recall, but I would lean toward Fretboard's answer absent any other information.

The reason I say that is the crudeness in manufacture and lack of any identifying entity. Yes, there are crude coins, (I collect Byzantine so I know crude), but they are crude in a different way. Yours is clearly machine manufactured, but still very crude, which is unusual for a real coin, or token for that matter. If it were a token, I would expecct higher manufacture, and some type of denomination or issuer, (or at least a patriotic symbol), not just "10".

Not demeaning your piece, just explaining why I was agreeing with Fretboard, as I thought it may help you.

I'd guess it's a '30's era stock amusement token. These were used in all sorts of machines and this one is reminiscent of cigarette tokens.

These were especially common in IL and MN.

Oh you're fine....any information is helpful....and yes I know what you mean, it obviously wasn't struck with much accuracy.

My grandparents/great-grandparents were all born/lived in Illinois so what you're saying would make sense....thanks! :)

The style is similar to some gaming counters, but I don't think I have seen one quite like this before. I will see if I can find any info and report back.

Great, thank would be awesome. I tried to do as much research on it before I asked here, but my knowledge of the stuff is pretty limited.

My first thought upon seeing the coin was it was Mexican in origin. The rays on both sides of the coin just reminded me of Mexican coins.

After looking at the obverse a bit more, it clearly is American in origin, as I believe the Eagle holding a sprig and arrows is uniquely American.

But really, I have absolutely no idea what that coin is, and I'm only responding to this thread in hopes someone will see it and identify it.

    Neat coin/token/whatever.

I was thinking it was American in nature too because of the eagle/sprig/arrows....it's barely noticeable, but there looks to be a star on the eagle's chest too.
