I'm trying to identify this medal. I presume it's a German imitation $20 gold piece (as Spiel Marke is German for "play dollar").

Has it been assigned a catalog number in any reference book? How would you describe this piece to make it distinct on a coin inventory.

I apologize for the quality of the pics - I only have my camera phone handy:

No one? I didn't get the usual 4 immediate responses of "It would be helpful if you posted pictures", so I guess I'm ahead of the game there...

I have a copy of the reference book for these pieces, which are gaming counters. The dies have been assigned numbers, so the id number is the combination of the two die numbers along with a metal designator, very similar to the method used to identify patriotic Civil War tokens. Some of the dies are very similar (there are 16 Liberty head dies), and better pics will be necessary to make a proper identification. For example, the length of the eagle's tongue is but one of the variants I could not discern from the pics.

I will try and post better pics. What is the name of your reference book?

From the pics you posted I can't see any details on the coin. I can tell the coin is round and brass colored.

When I get home I will post the title and author of my reference. It is a somewhat difficult to find book, and I have yet to find the accompanying volume that covers the smaller denominations. The one I have covers the eagle and double eagle counters. I think the author's last name is Fauver, but I will verify that later this evening.
