I disagree with you. In my town of 18,000 there are very few jobs to be had unless in specific fields or related to an employer. I'm in healthcare, and I perform my job in earnest. However, I went into this field specifically because of the lack of other employment that pays over min. wage. Even still, its barely above min. When the min. went up, my rate of pay stayed the same. Been the same for the last 8 years, when the big 20 cent raise was given WOOHOOO! LPN's and nurses at my facility make 13 and 15 an hour, respectively. Hardly even an incentive when flipping burgers will get you nearly that. I did construction too. Until I noticed that NCI Construction was taking over half my pay for "taxes". They drive around in nice new trucks today, that I helped pay for. Oh, and they wouldn't give me a W2 at years end, claiming I was "personal labor". The IRS was very interested when I told them, but looks like nothing was done. In an assisted living center I worked for, (8.60/hr) the owner also rented housing he owned to the employees, taking rent from every check before those people ever saw a dime. Not sure how legal that is??? I agree that people are lazy and picky, but it doesn't help when crooks are in high positions and can just hire the next sucker to "work for me and get a paycheck, or get out"
Seriously more than half? That seems ridiculous, isn't closer to 20-30% more of the industry standard? How do they justify that?
How does a temp employee know how much the agency takes? The agency contracts with the company to provide labor. The company pays the agency and the agency cuts a payroll check to the employee. Nowhere on that pay stub does it say what the company pays the agency for that employee.
I'm in accounting and on a shared drive there is an invoice from the agency for our services. I was a little shocked and disappointed when I found it, but kind of flattered that my pimp's customer is willing to pay that much.
Easy...just like this. (New Guy) - Hey John, we've been working together for a bit now, how much did you make this week? (John) - $1200 (New Guy) - Oh, ok ......(why in the world am i only getting paid $16.50?) or anything similar to that scenario
You should counter them and if the Temp agency is getting $25 per hour but paying you $13, tell the boss you can do the job for $19-$20 per hour and can save them $XXX over a year by cutting out the Temp agency for YOUR position
I worked for a temp agency for a year when I was in my twenties - data entry for the State Police. The other people doing data entry had been hired directly, and they couldn't do half the work I did - I was lightening fast. They were paid twice as much as I was, but when one of their positions opened, they offered it to me. By then though, I had moved on to even greener pastures. I never knew what the agency's cut was though.
Yes believe me I have thought of that but unfortunately as far as I know my position (I've been here 6 months) is truly temporary as when the new system comes in in April I may no longer be needed.
Don't count on that. I admit I haven't had mine frozen, but I have had my account closed with no warning from the bank, and they waited a month to tell me they had closed it. And then tell me in the same letter that they were going to wait another month before they sent me the balance from the account! Of course they tell me this right after I get back from a show where I wrote a bunch of checks on that account! (I had been socking money away into the account so I would have plenty for the show so the account had a healthy balance in it.). Naturally all those checks bounced because the account was closed, and I couldn't make them good right away because all my money was tied up in that account. When they did finally send me the balance they deducted from it the returned check fees from all those bounced checks too! Checks that bounced not because I didn't have the money but because they had closed the account. It must have cost me $800 in bounced check fees between the ones the bank charged me and the ones I had to make good for the dealers I had bought coins from. Unless the money orders themselves are stolen or fake. These are old lists but to give you an idea of the magnitude of the problem just with US Postal money orders. http://reviews.ebay.com/List-of-Stolen-Money-Orders-Do-not-Cash-Part-1?ugid=10000000004998824 and http://reviews.ebay.com/Stolen-Money-Orders-Part-2?ugid=10000000004998885 There are two more parts to these listings. Every week a new list comes out and is sent to the post offices. (Comment about how in the 50's and 60 one could just walk into about any factory and get a job.) This was probably true, and they would be getting 50 to 75 cents an hour. And they had to work hard for that because the next guy wanting in would be given their job if they didn't. The same can be said for most people, especially young people first starting out in the workforce. That's my bet too. They have software that daily goes through and sends remindes to any ended auction not marked as paid. The way around that is to go to your MyEbay, locate the auction and under the options mark it as paid once you send the MO. Tim, what skills do you have to offer the employer? One important one can be can you type? In some cases that can get you in the door. Are you willing to work unpopular hours? That's how I got on at the hospital. My sister-in-law told me they were always having problems trying to find someone willing to work third shift in Patient Registration, and that every time they did hire someone for it they started trying to get moved to day shift. So I got ahold of a typing tutorial program, taught myself rudimentary typing skills and applied. I told them I PREFERRED working third shift, and that since I didn't have a family I had no problem working weekends. That would allow those that did have families to spend the weekends with them. With that attitude I had almost no problem being hired. (The only problem I had was that I was a man. The hospital has been around for 110 years and in all that time I am the only man who has ever worked Registration. At my interview they brought this up and asked if I would have any problems taking orders from the other women? My response was "Why would I have a problem? They've been here longer and they know more than I do." I think that may have been what clinched it for me.) If they withheld taxes they HAVE to give you a W-2. Some companies have policys against discussing pay/pay rates.
Yup and if they don't, it's still a good idea to not discuss your current salary with other employees for many many reasons. Heck, I don't even tell my family what I make. Myself, wife and the IRS know what I make and I leave it at that.
Nope. I make the wife do the taxes, then I'm the second eyes before we send them off. So, the numbers always match up.
Conder That is terrible what the bank did to you. Did you complain to a state regulatory banking board? Or to newspapers or tv stations. A lot of them have reporters to work on helping people with problems like yours.
Welcome to self employment, there are a lot of tax's that we don't realize that are taken from our checks. Why do I see people complaining that company's take tax's out of checks. Do you think they keep the money? Nope, it's just sent by mandate to your Uncle. Just like the topic about coin stores taking tax's. It's not their choice, I'm sure they would love to not have to collect them.
That's terrible! Did you go to small claims over it? I think I'd give it a go. $800 would be a big chunk of money for me to lose and I realize the purchase prices paid were likely out of my league but YIKES! The IRS said that too. Fact is they didn't. bogus pay stubs, always working late on payday Friday but don't worry cuz they'll cash your check for you here so you don't have to wait till Monday. I was young, naive, trusting and inexperienced and though I felt weird over it I didn't say anything despite the red flags because everyone needs money and jobs can be hard to find. They have obviously been at it a long time and know just how to screw people in no position to defend themselves. I found my old 'stubs' awhile back. I couldn't find them when I made the report, but IRS wanted them. Maybe I should call back? I see on the IRS whistleblower site that you receive up to 30% of what they collect as a reward for your tip.......
I just read all 8 pages of this and my only question is why are you buying coins and love tokens right now? I really shouldn't have bought the last 3 coins I bought, but I had the money and it was some special toning, but when I don't have income or extra cash, I don't buy coins.
