Nice drachms @Sulla80 and @cmezner ! One of my areas of collecting are the coin types of the Auriol Hoard (IGCH 2352) buried circa 475 BC. 2137 Archaic anepigraphic AR fractions (1.5 kg) were found in a pot in an orchard 25 km from Marseilles 1867. ~1/2 were obtained by museums, including BnF, BM, Copenhagen & ANS. The rest were sold. Predominantly small AR fractions with square punch reverse (irregular -> square -> quadripartite square -> object in square incuse) so the coins were most likely for regional trade. Most attributed to Massalia, but some from Emporion, Velia, Phokaia and 1 from Aegina. In1907 Babelon, attributed many coins to Massalia. In 1978, Furtwängler determined most types from Massalia with a few probably from Emporion. Furtwängler AE Monnaies grecques en Gaule: le trésor d’Auriol et le monnayage de Massalia 525/520-460 av. you may have one lurking in your RR denarii that would go well with a collection of Mark Antony galleys. C. Valerius Flaccus; 82 BC. AR Denarius; Massalia mint Obv: Winged and draped bust of Victory right; X to left Rev: Aquila between two signa inscribed H (hastati) and P (principes), respectively Ref: Crawford 365/1; Sydenham 747a; Valeria 12; RBW –. Notes: this denarius was the first to show the legionary eagle (aquila) and standards as the main design element. This design influenced later issues, including Cn. Nerius and the legionary series of Mark Antony.
Here is an AE I believe is from Massalia 19mm, 4.3g Apollo and Bull It's not in great condition. I got it as a free gift along with a coin I won at a Spanish auction.
