I bought this really cheap, off a friend of mine who collects odds and ends.

Would like your opinion on the grade, and aprox. value.

Heavily altered, Looks to be altered reproduction. The sword in the laurels on the right hand side is not the correct type.

Just kidding, wanted to sound educated. Did you buy it or did he give it to you?

These things always look fake to me (even the known genuine ones), but I would grade it AU-55.

I was considering selling it, but I would be hard pressed to find another one this nice, for the money. So I think it will make an nice addition to my collection. Once I get a job, I might send it in to NGC.

What happened at the cell phone company that you were working at yesterday?

Didn't you see my correction? I mean the cell phone company I have service with. I don't work for one.

I took it out of the plastic 2x2 it was in, to take better pics.

I love how well struck the obverse is, and the creamy chocolate color it has.

Sorry, no, I didn't see that correction. Did you pay your old bill or did you move to another cell phone company?

As per Fuld, your specimen is cataloged as 11/298-a. Fuld lists the specimen's rarity as R-1, greater than 5000 known, considered 'very common.'

That said, your specimen has a terrific grade, despite the few marks in the fields of the obverse.

Beautiful CWT. And it was not altered. :thumb:

Cheetah, are you sure the obverse is 11? It looks like 10 to me. The 12th star has a "repunch" and the "1" in "1863" doesn't match the "1" in 1863 on the Fuld-11. I don't have my Fuld book with me, just going from an online source. Just wondering. I would guess the 10/298-a is also very common...

I consider your the "expert" in CWTs, so I'm seriously just asking why it's the 11 and not the 10.

I agree, it's a very nice original example of a CWT.

    I have a very similar design 12/297-a.

The way the question was phrased and the way he answered it says that he didn't pay the old bill. I expected that.

I won't see this guy again until Feb but...

He had a CWT that said "our army" on one side and "our navy" on the other. I could only find it's a R-4. What would it be worth? It's in great condition.
