I have been trying to get my hands on some star notes for about 2 months now without luck. Do you guys find them all in circulation?
Yes I have found all of my star notes in circulation. I work as a cashier for a part-time job and I am lucky in the sense that I get to see a large number of bills and coins everyday. You can also find them on ebay and other private sellers. Depending on teh condition you want them in you can get them for pretty cheap. Hope this helps! CoinNewb
My best find was a $100 star note I got for sellign coins to a bullion dealer. comman date quraters and halves. it was my lucky piece i carried in a plastic dime tube to go to the casino with lol

i have a around a hundred star notes from 1963 to present. Most all have been pulled from circulation over the last year or so. 3 or more times a week i go to one bank and trade in $200 in singles for a higher denomination, then i got down the street to another bak to buy $200 in singles. I sort thru them looking for stars, old age notes, web-fed sheet notes, ladders, radars and the like ... it takes me about 30 minutes or so to go thru them all. In the last year i have sorted over 10,000 singles .... I just do it over my lunch hour while i am at work. Sorting singles has also helped me get several $50 star notes a few $20 stars and a few $10's ... i just ask for a different denomination when cashing in my $200 singles. The hardest part for all this is that i have to have an account at each of the banks i do business with. But each has a minimum balance of $20 or less .... The reward is lots of stars =) <edited after i actually counted them =)>
I am selling my currency collection EDITED---No offers to buy/sell or trade I do have quite a few star notes to list I haven't finished listing all of my collection yet.
Got a star from every denom in circulation. All in bad shape though. I went to my dealer, he has TONS of them. IMO they aren't hard to find. $5 red seal the other day for 20 bucks. Appearantly its worth more but I can't figure out why! http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h51/erwizard/1935B5Star.jpg
thats a great looking bill, they book for at least $40 in VF your appears to be at least EF, so $20 was a good deal. EDITED--No offers to buy/sell/trade
That is a sharp looking bill. Is that an accident by the mint, or are theyre some that they make like that on purpose?
Due to misprints, smudges, or other problem notes, they are replaced with serials that have a star one one end of the serial. They don't attemp to "redo" the damaged note and thats where the star comes in. Star notes also replace the 100 mollionth note instead of a note with 00 000 000.
they dont do that anymore either.. now print runs only run to 92 million or so. I dont know the exact number, but i could look it up if you wish.
I recommend looking for GEM CU 1935 and 1957 series Silver Certs Stars, and any USN $2 and $5 Stars 1953 and 1963, and any SC $5 Stars from 1953 in XF-AU-CU. Of course, the higher grade you can afford, the better off your investment will appreciate. I especially like relatively cheap to find runs of 5-10 consecutivly numbered $1 Silver Certificate Star Notes. You can find REALLY, REALLY nice runs of 5 notes for around $10-$12 each...... IN ULTRA GEM CU....
