I was at the local store the other day (picking up a nicely toned 1950 D Jefferson), and the dealer gave me my change (about 20 cents worth) all in wheaties. Now, I collect them just for fun, despite their minimal value (the common-date circs, anyway), and I asked him whether or not he had any more. He then said that they have more than they want, and that they're just a bother for them to manage. So, I gave him a buck, and he gave me 100 mor at face value! Needless to say, the coins filled over 21 holes in my pre-1940 Lincoln cent book. I was quite pleased at that.
Nah, any really common-date wheaties just get thrown into tubes, and when those are filled, they go into normal paper penny rolls. Still, when I go back Sat. I'm going to grab another dollar or two. I actually found a 1909 (not VDB) in the lot I got, in G or maybe VG condition. Not too shabby.
Cool. I did something like that to my dealer on Monday. He was buying an estate when I walked in. I noticed some cent rolls in the estate. After the estate was purchased, I gave him $1 per roll as they had not been searched by him, but some other collector. 25 rolls later... I got a decent 1919, Lots of 1950's, and a 1941 with the last 1 being VERY weakly struck. OH and a whole mess of 1969-S Brilliant Unc cents.
