    mali,
You're a good sport and I am glad you didn't take any offense.Personally,I would rather have this particular fantasy piece than a real 1965 quarter anyway. It makes a great conversation piece. Thanks for sharing it.:smile

Everybody else is right, it's a quarter.

Thanks, Conder. That reverse looks like something a high school kid scribbled on his notebook during study hall.:goof:

I can see the ONE on the image on my computer. If it is the result of alteration, then they altered a fake as maintained by my other comments about the design. As for the Hobby Protection Act, no it would NOT cover the legal requirements of the act. The Act specifiy requires the word COPY to be used, and they soecify the size that the letters of the word must be and the letters of facsimile on this coin are much too small to qualify. The act requires COPY to be incuse .3 mm or half the thickness of the piece, in letters a minimum of 2 mm high and the word must be at least 6 mm long. Or about the size of four of the letters in the word UNITED.

Hi I also have one off these coins, butt I don’t know where it came from I bought it in Tunisia 20yers ago, and every one I asked before had no idea where it came from.

Where it came from exactly varies, China, Thailand, etc., but 99% of the time they are made in the far-east. If I had one I would report it to the proper authorities. It's simply Illegal Counterfeit Currency and it is a MAJOR problem for the collector.

Well, those pics are a lot clearer, and it obviously wasn't a quarter, but a fantasy piece, as Conder said.

Definitely a dud that is made to look like a quarter. It is so easy to fool an inexperienced collector. It is like those 1 Pound forgeries that turn up in change in the U.K..My boss got one on his recent trip to England.

The police just confiscated one (or more of these) from L.A.'s skid row. there was an article that they weren't sure if any of them were authentic (it was obvious that all were just cast fakes). They weren't altered, it was never a quarter, it was "minted" that way.

As for these "coins" they are obvious fakes and Aidan is right they are the size of a silver dollar (see which size 2x2 the most recent example is in?). Here is a link to the LA Times article about a similar coin they came across.

that one says facimile on it...is it still against the law to make or have it if it says its fake on the coin?

In my case I doe not believe it’s against the law to have it if it says it’s fake on the coin, doe I live in Sweden.

Places like the franklin mint are alays selling replica coins. They say copy on them so they are legal. I also think that in the case of the skid row/bum hoard most are not copies of real coins so it should be fine to own them, kind of like monopoly money. M.H.O.

As I said earlier having facsimile on it is tiny letters does NOT make it legal. It is still in violation of the Hobby Protection Act which specificly states that reproductions must have the word COPY punched into them and the letters have to be a minimum of 2 mm high and either .3mm deep or half the thickness of the reproduction whichever is less. And the minumum legth of the word COPY is 6 mm.
