Ok she came in this morning and i too a couple pics and set her to soak in VC Can't say I was as lucky as I have been in the past but still won't complain on a $20 coin. Sellers pics can be seen here http://www.cointalk.com/t219886/ Before soak pics.. After soak... (2hrs) Will probably try a 24 hour soak see if I might get some inprovement.
yes and no. Yes it did look like a nicer coin with the Verdigris still on it. Once it came loose the scratches and dings it hid became much more visible (This is the coins fault not the VC LOL) I hoping a longer soak to loosen and remove the rest of the Verdigris will improve tone/color to a more eye appealing level.
The product is called verdi-care and it is used to clean verdigris off of copper coins. There is a bit of debate as to if this is a good thing or not.
Yes but the debate is really regarding "grading" level coins. On these $20 large cents, I know I will not ever have them graded nor probably ever sell them. So because of this I don't worry about the debate on weather VC helps or hurts the actual value of the coin. It DOES prevent further damage from verdigris and is actualy preservation, not cleaning. The side benifit being a better looking coin. With the exception of this coin I have always found it to improve the eye appeal as well as killing/removing the verdigris so i will keep useing it, at least on semi-valuable coppers
I didn't mean to imply that I don't approve of the use of VC, I have seen it do some really nice things.
